Texecom Capture CA Ceiling Motion Detector, 360° Dual Tech Anti-Masking, Grade 3 White AKH-0001

Overview

A motion detector tells an alarm panel that someone is moving in a protected area. This Texecom unit sits on the ceiling and looks down and outwards, rather than across the room from a corner.

It is one of Texecom's Capture range, and this model is the Grade 3 version with anti-masking.

How it works

• Passive infrared: PIR stands for passive infrared. It picks up a change in heat as a person crosses its zones. Quad means four sensing elements in the pyro.
• K-band microwave: microwave sensing reacts to movement in a different way from heat sensing. Dual technology uses both types together, which is generally meant to cut false alarms.
• Active IR anti-masking: masking is covering or blocking a detector while the alarm is unset. Its algorithm maximises sensitivity to masking objects whilst minimising interference.

Where to use it

Capture detectors suit banking and finance, utilities and energy, and museums and galleries.

A ceiling position can suit rooms where wall space is taken up by shelving or displays. Check that the height falls inside the mounting height range before ordering.

What the figures mean in practice

• 360˚ pickup: the sensing is omni-directional, so the coverage forms a circle around the detector rather than a wedge from a wall.
• Certified coverage: The entire coverage pattern is independently certified to EN50131-2.
• Tri-Colour LED: check the manual for what each colour means.

Installing it

It has a ceiling mount cover, built in end of line resistors and an adjustable terminal block. An end of line resistor sits at the far end of a circuit and lets the panel spot a cut or a short.

Planning your system

This detector needs an alarm panel with a wired zone, plus cable back to it. For a Grade 3 system, every part usually has to meet that grade, so check the panel and the rest of the design too.

Standards and ratings explained

EN 50131 is the European standard for intruder alarm systems. Grade 3 is generally aimed at medium to high risk premises. PD 6662 is the UK scheme that applies it.
