Texecom Odyssey X-D Dummy Backplate, Accepts X1 and X3 Covers WDE-0001

Overview

A bell box on the wall tells passers-by that a building may be alarmed. A dummy backplate gives you that look without a sounder or a strobe inside.

This Texecom backplate is the rear part of the box. The coloured front comes from a separate cover.

Where to use it

• Decoy on a building with no alarm: a decoy bell box only puts off someone who believes it, so keep it clean and well fixed.
• Extra box on a protected site: a second box on another elevation can make an existing system look more complete, while the working external sounder does the real job.

What to expect from it

A dummy is not a security system. It will not detect entry, make a sound or tell anyone, and it should not be counted as an alarm for insurance.

Installing it

• Position: mount it high and clearly visible, as you would a live box, and out of easy reach.
• Fixing: use fixings that suit the wall, since the box has to stay in place through wind and weather.

Planning your system

You will need a cover as well. Texecom covers come in X1 and X3 shapes with a choice of frame and lens colours, so match any box already on the building.

If you later want a working sounder, the live Odyssey X backplates are separate parts. They are not a drop-in upgrade of this one, because it has no electronics at all.
