What this detector is for

A motion detector is what notices a person inside a protected area and tells the alarm panel. This Texecom unit is the wired, wall-mounted choice in the Capture range.

It suits residential, retail, education and healthcare sites. Wired detectors make most sense where cable can be run during a refit or new build.

How it works

• PIR: passive infrared. The detector sends nothing out, and reacts when body heat moves across its view.
• Quad element pyro: four heat-sensing elements watch the view, rather than the two in a basic PIR. This usually helps a detector tell a person from a small disturbance.
• Volumetric: the lens spreads its view across the whole room area in front of it, rather than a narrow curtain.
• White light rejection: bright light such as sun or car headlights is the usual enemy of a PIR, and this active rejection is there to reduce its effect.

Where to use it

Fit it on a wall where people have to walk across its view, such as a hallway or the corner of a room. With 20m of range and 90° of coverage, a corner position usually works well.

As a rule, avoid pointing it at windows, heaters or air vents, because fast changes in heat are a common cause of false alarms.

What the figures mean in practice

• 1.5m - 3m mounting height: this is the range to work within. Follow the manual for your exact height, because height changes the pattern on the floor.
• PetWise: coverage patterns differ in this mode, so walk test again after turning it on.
• Grade 2: Grade 2 is the level usually asked for in homes and low-risk commercial premises, though the insurer has the final say.
