About this product

The Texecom AGB-0002 is a heat detector for connecting fire sensing to a security control panel. It is the Exodus RR 12V 4-wire model, which reacts to rapid temperature increases or temperatures above 58°C. A built-in alarm relay signals the panel, and it is certified to EN54-5.

Key features

  • Reacts to a fast-growing fire – rapid temperature increases or temperatures above 58°C
  • Connects to a security panel – dedicated built-in relay, normally closed
  • Runs from alarm wiring – 12v/4-Wire Operation, 9-16VDC
  • Choose how it resets – latch input for auto-reset or latching operation
  • Quick to check – test button on the detector
  • Small draw on the supply – 15mA (Typical)
  • Independent approval – certified to EN54-5

For installers

  • Power: 9-16VDC, 15mA (Typical).
  • Mounting: ceiling connector base, 107mm x 55mm.
  • Cabling: 12v/4-Wire. Built-in normally closed relay rated <24VDC 50mA, 18Ω. Latch input 12V: Latching; 0V: Auto Reset.
  • Standards: certified to EN54-5, approved to BS EN 55022 Class B & BS EN 50130-4 : 1996.

Frequently asked questions

At what temperature does it alarm?

Above 58°C, or sooner if the temperature rises rapidly. It is suited to places where normal temperatures do not exceed 38°C.

Where should it not be fitted?

Anywhere the temperature may change rapidly in normal use. Those changes are what this detector reacts to.

How does it connect to an alarm panel?

Through its built-in normally closed relay. It runs on 12v/4-Wire, with a separate latch input.

Does it reset by itself?

It can. The latch input sets it: 12V gives latching and 0V gives auto reset.

Does it detect smoke?

No. It is a heat detector using digital thermal detection, so it reacts to temperature and not to smoke.

Texecom AGB-0002 rate of rise heat detector, angled view

Texecom Exodus RR Rate of Rise Heat Detector, 12V 4-Wire, Alarm Relay AGB-0002

Overview

Exodus detectors bring fire sensing to the security trade. Texecom gives them a dedicated relay for connection to security control panels.

This is the rate of rise version, marked with a green label. Match the type of heat detector to the room it will protect.

How it works

  • Rate of rise: the detector watches how fast the temperature climbs, as well as the temperature itself. A quick climb points to a fire that is growing.
  • Microprocessor design: digital technology detection algorithms handle the reading on board.
  • Relay signalling: in alarm the normally closed relay changes state, and the panel sees that as an alarm on the zone.
  • Latch input: this sets whether the detector holds its alarm until reset or clears by itself.

Where to use it

It suits rooms where normal temperatures do not exceed 38°C. It is unsuitable where the temperature may change rapidly, because ordinary use could then look like a fire.

The heat detector guide explains how rate of rise and fixed temperature types differ, and why heat is often chosen over smoke in some rooms.

Fire detection on a security panel is not the same job as a designed fire alarm system. Where a building needs one, the decision belongs to whoever holds the fire risk assessment.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 58°C: the fixed point at which it alarms even on a slow rise. A slow, cool fire may take time to reach it.
  • 38°C: the most the room should normally reach. Warmer rooms leave less margin before an alarm.
  • 15mA (Typical): add this to the panel's auxiliary load when working out battery standby.
  • 50mA relay: the relay's limit, so it suits a low-power signal such as a panel zone.

Installing it

It fits a ceiling connector base and measures 107mm x 55mm. It works on 12v/4-Wire, so plan the cable run from the panel and follow the wiring guide supplied by the maker.

Use the test button after fitting to prove the zone at the panel. As a rule, record the test and warn anyone on site, and let the alarm company know first if the system is monitored.

Planning your system

The detector needs a zone on an alarm panel and a 9-16VDC supply. Check the panel's documentation for how a fire zone is programmed, and how many it has.

Compare the wider choice of heat detectors for other rooms, and see Texecom sensors for other detectors in this maker's range.

Standards and ratings explained

EN54-5 is the European standard for point heat detectors. BS EN 55022 and BS EN 50130-4 cover electrical interference and immunity. These apply to the detector, and they do not certify the installation it goes into.
