About this product

The Tynetec ZXT435 is a 169MHz ceiling pull cord for telecare and warden call alarms. It lets someone raise an emergency call by pulling the cord once. It suits bathrooms and bedsides, and homes where wiring a standard pullcord would be difficult, and it works with Reach, Advent xt and Altec Response units.

Key features

  • Raises a call with one pull – an emergency call is made by simply pulling the cord once
  • No cable back to the alarm – a 169MHz device for homes where a standard pullcord would be hard to wire
  • Reachable from standing or the floor – 2.7 metre orange cord with 2 triangular grips
  • Designed with resident safety in mind – Anti-ligature safety break
  • Tells you when the battery is going – a low battery alert is automatically transmitted
  • Small and light on the ceiling – 87mm diameter x 35mm deep, 85 grams

For installers

  • Power: long life Lithium battery, with no mains connection needed at the cord.
  • Mounting: ceiling only, not designed for wall mounting. 2 suitable length screws, into a wooden joist if possible, otherwise cavity fixings.
  • Cabling: none. Register it to the alarm unit instead, using the 8 digit ID on the label where deletion is needed.
  • Compatibility: Reach at-home alarms, Advent xt warden call and Altec Response local carer alarms.

Frequently asked questions

Which alarms does this pull cord work with?

Reach at-home alarms, Advent xt warden call and Altec Response local carer alarms. It has to be registered onto the unit before use.

Where should a ceiling pull cord be fitted?

In bathrooms, alongside the bed, or anywhere personal pendants are not usually worn. It must go on a ceiling, as it is not designed for wall mounting.

How long should the cord be?

It is supplied as 2.7 metres and cut to suit. Knot it so one triangle is within normal reach and the other just above floor level.

Can the battery be changed on site?

No. Alarm pullcords must be returned to the maker for battery replacement, and should be replaced within 7 days of a low battery call.

How often should it be tested?

Once a month. Activating it checks the battery and confirms it is working.

Tynetec 169MHz Ceiling Pull Cord, Anti-Ligature Safety Break ZXT435

What this pull cord is for

Someone who needs help may not be wearing a pendant, particularly in the bath or in bed. A pull cord gives them a way to call from places where a wearable is often taken off.

Unlike a wired unit on a nurse call or warden call system, this one sends its call by radio to the alarm it is registered on.

How it works

  • Momentary action: the switch operates as the cord is pulled and does not stay latched, so there is no reset needed at the ceiling.
  • Registering: the alarm unit goes into a learn mode and the cord is pulled while it listens. Allow for the short window: 1 minute on Reach, and 20 seconds on Altec Response.
  • Daily battery check: the unit tests itself and only sends an alert if the low reading persists for a week of checks.

Where to use it

Bathrooms and bedsides are the intended positions. It also helps on retrofit jobs in occupied homes, where chasing in a cable would be disruptive.

Check the bathroom zone, the alarm provider's advice and the unit's documentation before fitting near a bath or shower.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Two grips: the upper one is for someone standing or seated, and the lower one is for someone who has fallen.
  • 7 days: the alert waits for 7 consecutive days of low readings, and the pull cord should then be replaced within a further 7.
  • Radio range: this can be affected by the working environment, so test from all extremes of the building.

Installing it

  • Fixing: twist the cover off the base, then fix the base with screws. A joist gives the firmest hold, and a drill may be needed for cavity fixings.
  • Working at height: be careful when using step ladders, and always face the direction you are working.
  • Trimming: knot the cord at the two heights first, then cut off the excess.
  • Proving it: make test calls from all extremes of the building. On a Reach, check first that the Control Centre is happy to take one.

Planning your system

The cord needs a compatible alarm to report to, as it cannot raise help alone. Check the unit on site is a Reach, Advent xt or Altec Response.

Plan for the end of the battery's life as well. A spare helps meet the replacement window, because the unit has to go back to the maker for a new battery.
