The Videx 4K-3S/CL is a three-way surface-mounted 4000 Series audio door entry kit supplied complete with a coded access keypad, in a matt 316 brushed stainless steel finish.

Videx builds the 4000 Series audiokits around a modular "3+1" audio system, and this is the surface-mounting three-way version with coded access. The entrance panel is assembled from 4000 Series modules: a speaker unit, the call-button modules for three ways, and the 4901 coded-access keypad module. The kit is supplied with 3011 smart series audiophones for surface wall mounting, each with a lock release button and a three position call tone volume control, and with a Videx power supply.

Videx's standard finish for the 4000 Series fascia is matt 316 brushed stainless steel, set into a 4000 Series gun metal grey surround front support frame. That is the finish supplied on this part code. A full gun metal grey fascia is a separate part with a /BL suffix.

The coded access module sits alongside the call buttons rather than replacing them. Residents are called on the buttons in the normal way, while staff, cleaners or the residents themselves can be given a code that drives a relay directly.

• Electronic call tone and reassurance tone: calls are announced with an electronic call tone at the audiophone, and Videx lists reassurance tones on the system.
• Power supply included: the audiokits are supplied with a Videx power supply, and Videx states that the 322 supply is the one provided for three way kits and above.
• Single entrance system: the kit is configured for one entrance, which is the normal arrangement for a small block with a single front door.
• Modular and repairable: because the panel is built from published 4000 Series modules, individual speaker, button and keypad modules can be replaced later rather than changing the whole panel.

Use cases

This is the kit for a small three-flat conversion, a terrace split into three units, or a pair of offices with a shared front door. It also suits a small block where the entrance is on the face of the wall and chasing in a flush panel is not practical or not permitted. The coded access side of it earns its place where a landlord, a cleaner, a carer or a delivery round needs to get through the front door without a resident having to answer.

It also earns its place where issuing keys to everyone who needs occasional access has become a liability. It is an audio-only system, so it suits buildings where residents want to speak to a caller and release the door rather than see them. If identification by picture matters, a video kit is the right choice instead.

The surface panel and the stainless fascia also stand up better than a plastic panel on an exposed street frontage. That is usually the deciding factor between this and a budget intercom on a shared entrance.
