About this product

Please note: this is a non-returnable item (excluding faulty goods)

The Videx 4K-3S/CL is a three-way surface-mounted 4000 Series audio door entry kit supplied complete with a coded access keypad, in a matt 316 brushed stainless steel finish.

Videx builds the 4000 Series audiokits around a modular "3+1" audio system, and this is the surface-mounting three-way version with coded access. The entrance panel is assembled from 4000 Series modules: a speaker unit, the call-button modules for three ways, and the 4901 coded-access keypad module. The kit is supplied with 3011 smart series audiophones for surface wall mounting, each with a lock release button and a three position call tone volume control, and with a Videx power supply.

Videx's standard finish for the 4000 Series fascia is matt 316 brushed stainless steel, set into a 4000 Series gun metal grey surround front support frame. That is the finish supplied on this part code. A full gun metal grey fascia is a separate part with a /BL suffix.

The coded access module sits alongside the call buttons rather than replacing them. Residents are called on the buttons in the normal way, while staff, cleaners or the residents themselves can be given a code that drives a relay directly.

Key features

  • Three-way audio door entry: the kit covers a three-apartment or three-office entrance, with one call button per way on the entrance panel.
  • Surface mounting: this is the surface version of the kit, so the panel mounts onto the face of the wall rather than needing a flush back box chased in.
  • Coded access built in: a Videx 4901 codelock module giving three codes and three relays is part of the panel, so entry by code sits alongside the call buttons rather than replacing them.
  • Matt 316 stainless steel fascia: Videx's standard 4000 Series finish is matt 316 brushed stainless steel in a gun metal grey surround front support frame.
  • 3011 audiophones: the kit is supplied with Videx 3011 smart series surface wall-mount audiophones with a lock release button and a three position call tone volume control.
  • Up to three handsets per flat: Videx allows up to two additional audiophones per apartment, to a maximum of three handsets per call button.
  • Standard 3+1 audio wiring: the 4000 Series 3+1 system needs a minimum of four cores to each telephone, with CW1308 or equivalent recommended.
  • Dry contact lock output: the lock output is a dry contact on a common and normally open pair, so it can drive a lock release or a strike wired to its own supply.
  • Electronic call tone and reassurance tone: calls are announced with an electronic call tone at the audiophone, and Videx lists reassurance tones on the system.
  • Power supply included: the audiokits are supplied with a Videx power supply, and Videx states that the 322 supply is the one provided for three way kits and above.
  • Single entrance system: the kit is configured for one entrance, which is the normal arrangement for a small block with a single front door.
  • Modular and repairable: because the panel is built from published 4000 Series modules, individual speaker, button and keypad modules can be replaced later rather than changing the whole panel.

Use cases

This is the kit for a small three-flat conversion, a terrace split into three units, or a pair of offices with a shared front door. It also suits a small block where the entrance is on the face of the wall and chasing in a flush panel is not practical or not permitted. The coded access side of it earns its place where a landlord, a cleaner, a carer or a delivery round needs to get through the front door without a resident having to answer.

It also earns its place where issuing keys to everyone who needs occasional access has become a liability. It is an audio-only system, so it suits buildings where residents want to speak to a caller and release the door rather than see them. If identification by picture matters, a video kit is the right choice instead.

The surface panel and the stainless fascia also stand up better than a plastic panel on an exposed street frontage. That is usually the deciding factor between this and a budget intercom on a shared entrance.

Videx 4K-3S/CL 3-Way Surface Audio Door Entry Kit with Coded Access

Who this is for

For the installer: this is the three way surface variant of Videx's 4K audiokit with codelock, built on the 4000 Series 3+1 audio platform. The panel is modular — a speaker unit, the call-button modules and a coded-access keypad module — so you can replace a single module later instead of a whole panel.

Wiring is standard 3+1: a minimum of four cores to each telephone, CW1308 or equivalent. The lock output is presented as a dry contact on a common and normally open pair, so you can drive a strike from its own supply. Up to three 3011 audiophones can be connected per call button.

Videx does not publish panel or back box dimensions for individual kits, and states plainly that panel and back box sizes vary with the audiokit. Measure from the delivered parts before you cut or drill anything. Take the fixing centres off the actual surface box rather than off a drawing for a different way count.

In plain English: this is a door entry system for a building split into three homes or three units. Each flat gets a handset on the wall with a button that opens the front door.

A visitor presses the button next to the name they want, the flat's handset rings, somebody picks it up, they can talk to whoever is outside and press the button to let them in. The extra part on this version is the number keypad on the panel. You can give somebody a code instead of a key, and if that person stops coming you change the code rather than changing the lock.

It is sound only — there is no camera and no screen — so you can hear who is at the door but not see them.

Buying this in the UK

  • Videx is a UK manufacturer with offices in London and Newcastle, so spares and replacement modules for the 4000 Series are readily available in this country rather than needing importing.
  • Check the way count before you order. Videx builds this range from one way up to twelve ways, and 4K-3S/CL is specifically the three way surface kit; the flush equivalent is 4K-3/CL.
  • This is a non-returnable line excluding faulty goods, so confirm the number of flats and whether the entrance needs surface or flush mounting before the order goes in.
  • The standard finish supplied on this code is matt 316 brushed stainless steel in a gun metal grey surround. If you want the fully gun metal grey fascia you need the /BL version, which is a different part code.
  • The kit includes the power supply, so the only extra you normally need to budget for is the lock release or strike itself and its cabling, plus a rainshield if the entrance is exposed.
  • If you need the exact quantity of audiophones supplied in the box confirmed before you order, ask us and we will get it in writing. Videx does not publish a per-kit handset quantity for the three way kits.

Questions we get asked

  • Can I add more handsets in a flat? Yes. Videx allows up to two additional 3011 audiophones per apartment, to a maximum of three handsets per call button, which covers an upstairs and downstairs extension in a maisonette.
  • Does the keypad light up? Yes. Videx specifies blue backlit keypad buttons on the 4901 codelock module fitted to these kits.
  • Will it work with my existing door lock? The panel provides a dry contact lock output on a common and normally open pair. That suits the usual 12 V ac lock releases and strikes wired to their own supply. It does not power the lock itself.
  • What cable do I need? Videx recommends CW1308 or equivalent, with a minimum of four cores to each telephone. On longer runs increase the conductor size so the overall resistance stays inside Videx's stated limits.
  • Is there a video version? Yes, Videx makes video kits on other platforms, but this particular kit is audio only with a coded access keypad and no camera.
  • The datasheet says 4800M and 2 codes / 2 relays — why does this page say 4901 and 3 / 3? That table on the datasheet covers the one-way and two-way kits only. Videx publishes the 4901, 3 code / 3 relay module for the 4000 Series codelock kits, including this one.

Videx 4K-3S/CL 3-Way Surface Audio Door Entry Kit with Coded Access

Please note: this is a non-returnable item (excluding faulty goods)
