The Videx 8K-8S is an eight-button surface-mounted audio door entry kit from the 8000 Series.

It answers the door for eight flats from a single panel. A caller presses the button for the flat they want, and the handset inside sounds an electronic call tone. The resident can speak to the caller and release the door from that same handset.

The door station is made for outdoor use and fits on the face of the wall rather than being recessed into it.

Key features

• Eight call buttons: one button per apartment, each with a nameplate.
• Two-way speech: caller and resident can talk to each other between the panel and the handset.
• Electronic call tone: the handset sounds an electronic call tone when a button is pressed.
• Lock release: the door station has a built-in lock relay, triggered by the lock release button on the handset. Videx lists the lock output as a normally open switched 0V output.
• One entrance: Videx lists the number of entrances for these kits as one, so this kit serves a single entrance.
• Surface-mounted outdoor panel: the 8000 Series door station is made for outdoor use and mounts on the wall face.
• Wall-mount 3011 handset: a 3011 handset from the 3000 Series Smart Range, with a lock release button and a three-position call tone volume control. The Videx datasheet table gives handset quantities in its one-way and two-way columns: 1 x 3011 and 2 x 3011. This eight-way kit is not one of that table's columns, so confirm the handset quantity before you order.
• Up to three points per flat: up to 2 additional telephones or extension sounders can be installed in each apartment.
• Simple wiring: the system needs 4 cores (3+1) from the door station to each handset, and Videx recommends CW1308 cable.
• Power supply included: Videx supply a 322 power supply unit with 3-way kits and above. Videx rates the 322 at 12Vac, 18VA.
• Finish: the speaker and button module front fascias are in the standard stainless steel finish. The front support frame and rainshield surround come in either an aluminium or a black finish (suffix /BL).

Where this is used

An eight-button kit suits a small block of flats, a house converted into eight units, or a small office building with eight tenants. The surface panel also helps on refurbishment work, where cutting a recess into an existing wall is awkward. Buildings with more or fewer units are covered by the rest of the 8000 Series, which runs from one up to twelve call buttons in both surface and flush versions.
