Videx VR120 Vandal Resistant Audio Door Entry Panel, 11 Button, Flush VR120/136-11

Overview

This is the part of an audio door entry system that sits outside the building. Visitors press a button, speak to the person inside and wait for the door to release. It belongs with the wider group of door stations, and eleven buttons suit a small block or a shared office.

How it works

  • “4+1” audio: this is the traditional wiring for an audio door entry system, and the Art.136 amplifier handles speech at the panel.
  • Call progress: the LEDs and tones show a visitor that the call is going through, when to speak and when the door has opened.
  • Lock output: a dry contact output is a plain switch with no voltage of its own, so the lock runs from its own supply.

Where to use it

An IP rating describes protection from dust and water. IP55 covers dust and low pressure water jets from any angle, so the panel suits outdoor entrances. The intercom guide explains why a rain shield matters at an entrance, and the point applies to an audio panel too.

Surface back boxes come with a rain shield, which helps on walls with no recess.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 120x280: the face size for this audio panel. Adding a reader or keypad usually moves a panel up a size, so choose extras before ordering a back box.
  • 12 Gauge: a measure of metal plate thickness, where a lower number means thicker metal.
  • 6mm engraving: the height of the characters, so names or numbers stay readable from standing height.

Installing it

Pick the back box before first fix, because it sets the hole size or the depth on the wall. The VRBB120x280 bezel back box hides rough edges around the opening. The VRFB120x280 is the plain flush option, and the VRSB120x280 surface box sits on the wall.

The face plate fixes on with anti-vandal fixings, so keep the matching tool on the van. Electric strikes and similar locks connect through the lock output, with their own supply.

On an escape route, a lock usually needs a separate release route as well. Speak to whoever holds the fire strategy, and read the access control guide first.

Planning your system

  • Inside each home: in most installations a working system also needs handsets and a power supply, so match these to the “4+1” wiring. Panel parts and add-ons are in the range of intercom accessories.
  • Extras: the VRIND coil helps users with hearing aids, and the VRCL1 keypad or VRPP Wiegand reader adds keyless entry.
