Videx 6200 Series 3.5" Colour Videophone with Handset, VX2300 6286

Overview

This is the indoor answering unit for a flat or house on a Videx VX2300 system. A visitor presses the call button at the door, the 6286 rings, and the occupant lifts the handset to see and speak to them before letting them in.

It is part of the 6200 Series, a compact surface mount design with a 3.5” colour screen. It suits a new build as well as a like-for-like swap on an existing VX2300 job.

How it works

The VX2300 is a digital BUS system: each indoor unit has its own address, and the door station calls that address. The 6286 takes both power and signals from the BUS line, so a single unit needs no separate supply.

  • Unit address: set on the 7 switches of SW1, from 1 to 127.
  • Extension number: when there is more than one unit in the same flat, each takes an extension so they ring together.
  • Bus relay: a dedicated push button can activate a bus relay board Art. 2305, from this videophone.

Where to use it

It is built for indoor wall mounting in homes and flats. Working temperature runs from -20 to +60 °C, so it suits any heated room or hallway.

For blocks of flats, the system allows a maximum of 100 units, with addresses up to 127.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 150mA operating, 200mA peak: the current drawn from the BUS during a call. Add it up across the units when sizing the system power supply.
  • 20 hours of privacy: the longest timed do-not-disturb setting. Left at default, privacy stays on until switched off.
  • 144 by 182 mm: the footprint on the wall, at 27 mm deep.

Installing it

Fix the base at approx 135cm from the finished floor and bring the wires through the hole in the base. All address and mode settings are made on the two dip-switch banks at the back, and can be done without opening the videophone.

Connect the wires to the removable terminals, then test the system before closing the cover. The contrast and hue trimmers can be adjusted only while the videophone is open.

Planning your system

A working job also needs a VX2300 door station and the system power supply. Browse door entry and intercom systems for the rest of the system, or complete kits in door entry kits.

Where the job uses a bus relay, the Videx 2305 bus relay module can be switched from this videophone. Mounting parts and spares sit in intercom and door entry accessories.

This guide to video intercoms explains how analogue and IP door entry differ, which helps when replacing an older unit.
