Videx Timed Push to Exit Button, Flush Stainless Steel, 2-30 Seconds SP80/T

Overview

A push to exit button lets someone leave through a door that is held by a lock. The timed version goes a step further, because one press keeps the lock released for a set time, so a person has time to walk through.

It belongs with other exit buttons and door release devices on a controlled door.

How it works

• Timer: the on board pcb starts its timer on a press and operates the relay until the time you set runs out.
• Relay contacts: CO is the common, NO stays open until the relay works and NC stays closed until the relay works. The lock circuit goes on whichever pair suits the lock.
• +Out: this terminal passes out an unregulated 12Vdc supply, up to 500mA (max.).

Where to use it

Fit it indoors beside the door it serves. As a rule, a slow or heavy door needs a longer release time than a light internal one, so start in the middle of the range and adjust it on site.

For an entrance controlled by an access system, wire it to the controller's request to exit input so the controller knows the exit is allowed. Access controllers usually have an input for this.

Installing it

A fail safe lock releases when power stops, while a fail secure lock stays locked. A maglock is usually fail safe, and an electric strike can be either, so check the lock's own documentation before wiring.

This button is not a substitute for an emergency release. On an escape route, the door usually needs a separate release route, so speak to whoever holds the fire strategy. The access control guide explains why, and the magnetic lock guide covers the door hardware.

Planning your system

• Power: allow for up to 60mA (max.) with the relay energised, plus anything on the +Out terminal, when sizing a power supply.
• Surface mounting: where no flush box is possible, the SP80/S is a surface stainless steel exit button in the same range, without the timer.
