Frequently asked questions

Which door entry system does it work with?

The VX2200 digital system. Check with Videx before planning it into any other system.

Can it use coax or twisted pair for video?

Yes. It can operate with composite video on coax or a balanced video signal on two wires, set by switches.

Can the ringing be turned off?

Yes. In privacy mode it receives calls showing the video from the door panel but doesn’t ring.

How far can it be from the door panel on Cat.5 cable?

A max of 100 metres. Videx measures this between the door panel and the furthest videophone/intercom.

Can two videophones go in one apartment?

Yes, in parallel, but on Cat.5 cable a local power supply for additional videophones is required. Video termination switches also need setting on all but the last unit.

Can the picture be adjusted?

Yes. Brightness is a control on the unit, and contrast and hue trimmers can be adjusted only if the videophone is open.

What this videophone is for

This is the indoor half of a video door entry system: the door panel calls it, the screen shows the caller, and the handset carries the conversation. It sits among the wider range of intercom systems for homes and flats.

The Videx 6272N is built for VX2200, a digital system. It will not stand alone, so check the rest of the site is VX2200 first.

How it works

  • Addressed on a bus: each unit has a binary address set on an 8 way dip switch bank, so a call reaches the right apartment.
  • Coax or balanced video: coax is a shielded single cable, and balanced sends the picture down a twisted pair. The unit is set for one or the other by switch.
  • Concierge call: in stand-by, picking up the handset and pressing the buttons will book a call to the concierge, if the site has one.
  • Service buttons: S1 and S2 close a contact to COM while pressed, at max 24Vdc@24mA. They suit a small signal, not a lock.

Where to use it

It is for wall mounting inside an apartment, with a working temperature of -10°C +50°C. Treat it as an indoor product.

A hallway is the usual place, where the ring can be heard and the handset reached.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 200mA and 120mA: the first is the draw during a call and the second during a conversation. Use the higher figure when sizing the video supply for several units.
  • Max 100 metres: the limit runs from the door panel to the furthest videophone/intercom, not to the nearest junction.
  • 17÷20Vdc: this is the video power supply input at the +20 terminal, so a long cable run needs its voltage checking at the far end.

Installing it

  • Opening it: disconnect the handset, then remove the cover holding the electronics from the base before fixing the base to the wall.
  • Termination: with more than one unit in parallel and no video splitter, put switches 3 and 4 OFF on all but the last unit.
  • Melody setting: the melody can only be set where the +20Vdc voltage from Art. 893N1 is always enabled.
  • Trimmers: contrast and hue are set with the cover off, so do this before closing the unit.

Planning your system

A VX2200 job also needs a door panel, a system power supply and a control cabinet. Those parts sit under door stations and monitors and door entry accessories.

Where the ring cannot be heard in every room, add the Art. 512A extension sounder, wired to the EXTC call tone output.
