Videx 4 Way Balanced Video Splitter, Surface Mount 316

Overview

When one door station has to show its picture on several videophones, the video line needs splitting so each monitor gets a clean signal. The 316 does that for up to four monitors on a Videx system with balanced video.

It is a small accessory, usually fitted out of sight near the monitors or at a junction in the riser. Each output carries its own monitor label, from “a” to “d”, which keeps a multi-flat job easy to follow.

How it works

  • Balanced video: the picture travels on a pair of wires rather than a coaxial cable, which suits standard multi-core door entry cable.
  • Input and outputs: the incoming video and supply land on one set of terminals, and each of the four monitors takes its own −, +, V1 and V2.

Installing it

Fix the box to a wall surface and wire each videophone to its own output, marked “a” to “d”. Keep a note of which flat is on which output, as it makes later fault-finding quicker.

Follow the wiring diagram supplied with the door entry system for the rest of the job. As a rule, check that every monitor on the line is wired the same way before powering up.

Planning your system

The splitter sits between the door station and the monitors, so plan it alongside the rest of the door entry and intercom systems on the job.

Where a single home needs video at the door, door entry kits bring the panel and monitor together. Other housings and spares are in intercom and door entry accessories, and the wider intercom systems range covers audio-only jobs.

This guide to video intercoms explains the difference between analogue and IP systems, which matters before choosing parts.

Standards and ratings explained

The 316 is CE marked to the EMC, LVD and RoHS directives. In plain terms it is built not to cause or suffer from interference, to be electrically safe, and to limit hazardous substances.
