Overview

A base sounder gives a warning tone from a ceiling position shared with a detector.

This Identifire model is aimed at conventional work. It helps building owners keep ceilings tidy, and gives installers a neat way to add sound at detector points.

How it works

  • Omni-directional sound: The tone spreads all round the unit instead of in one direction, which suits a device on a ceiling.
  • Tone choice: The set includes low and high frequencies, plus European, American and Australian norms.
  • Volume steps: Each step down drops the level by a set amount, so you can match the room without changing the tone.

Where to use it

Type A means indoor use, so keep it to dry rooms within -10°C to +50°C. Ceilings are the usual place, and it can also be wall mounted, but check the maker's instructions first.

Higher frequency tones can be easier to pick out in some rooms and harder in others, so test the chosen tone in the building.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Tone affects output: Sound level and current change with the tone, so check the maker's figures for your chosen tone.
  • Volume settings: The dB(A) scale is logarithmic, so -6 dB(A) is a noticeable step down, and -18 dB(A) much more so.
  • Supply window: The 18-30V dc range has to hold at the sounder, so allow for voltage drop on long cable runs.

Installing it

  • With a detector: Check the detector's fixing and that it sits properly on the sounder before final fitting.
  • Without a detector: A front blanking plate closes the unit when it stands alone.
  • Panel check: If the system is 2 wire, check the panel against the maker's list of compatible control panels first.
