Overview

A connection box gives a fire alarm circuit a proper place to split or end. In most installations, a dedicated, labelled box is easier to find and test later than a joint hidden in a general purpose enclosure.

This one belongs to the Identifire family, so it sits comfortably beside other devices in that range on a wall. The red body suits a site that wants the box to stand out as part of the fire system.

How it works

• Junction and termination: a junction lets one cable run carry on into another, and a termination is where a cable ends. The box is designed for both on fire rated cabling.
• Passive part: the box only carries the wiring through.

Where to use it

It fits new or retrofit work, typically where a system needs extending. Keep it within -5°C to +50°C.

As a rule, treat it as an indoor part unless the maker confirms otherwise.

What the figures mean in practice

• Knockouts: these are pre-formed entries you remove only where a cable arrives. Glanded entry means a cable gland seals and grips the cable at that point.
• Depth: the back cover adds 35 mm off the wall, so check the space before you fix it.
• Weight: at 0.06 kg it adds almost nothing to the fixings needed.

Installing it

• Cable: use the cable type your design calls for. Fire-resistant and specialist cable is one place to start, and each cable's own data decides whether it suits.
• Isolate first: as a rule, tell the responsible person and disable the circuit before opening it, then prove every device beyond the box after the work.

Planning your system

The box itself adds no alarm function, so the job still needs its panel, cabling and devices. Fire alarm sounders and beacons are the usual reason to extend a circuit like this.
