About this product

The Yucel Y4-6 is a 6V 4Ah valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) battery for equipment that asks for this size. It suits installers and maintainers replacing a small 6V battery on float or cyclic charge. It measures 70 x 47 x 106 mm over the terminals and weighs 0.81 kg.

Key features

  • Compact 6V power – 6 V nominal and 4 Ah at the 20-hr rate
  • Fits awkward spaces – can be installed and operated in any orientation except permanently inverted
  • Planned service life – EUROBAT Standard Commercial 3 to 5 years, design life up to 5 years at 20°C
  • Slow loss in storage – capacity loss of about 3% per month at 20°C
  • Strong short bursts – up to 40 A maximum discharge for 1 minute
  • Push-on connections – FASTON Quickfit / release terminals, 4.75 mm

For installers

  • Power: float charge 6.825 (±1%) V at 20°C with no current limit. Cyclic or boost charge 7.26 (±3%) V at 20°C, limited to 1 A.
  • Mounting: 70 (±1) x 47 (±1) mm, 106 (±2) mm high over the terminals, 0.81 kg typical. Any orientation except permanently inverted.
  • Cabling: FASTON (Quickfit / release) 4.75 mm.
  • Compatibility: check the equipment's own battery and charging figures against this one, and use a charger that matches them.
  • Standards: IEC61056, with ISO 9001 certification.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the Y4-6?

70 (±1) mm long, 47 (±1) mm wide and 106 (±2) mm high over the terminals. It has a typical mass of 0.81 kg.

What charge voltage does it need?

6.825 (±1%) V on float and 7.26 (±3%) V for cyclic or boost charging, both at 20°C. Use a charger set for 6V lead acid batteries.

Can it be mounted on its side?

Yes. It can be installed and operated in any orientation except permanently inverted.

Can it go in a sealed box?

No. VRLA batteries release hydrogen gas which can form explosive mixtures in air, so it must not be placed inside a sealed container.

How long does it last?

Design life is up to 5 years at 20°C, and EUROBAT classes it Standard Commercial, 3 to 5 years. Heat and repeated deep discharge usually shorten real service life.

Is this the flame retardant version?

No. The standard option is ABS (UL.94:HB). There is a flame retardant option (FR) at ABS (UL94:V0).

Yucel Y4-6 6V 4Ah VRLA Battery, FASTON Terminals

Overview

VRLA means valve regulated lead acid. It is the type many people call a sealed lead acid (SLA) battery, because you never top it up with water.

This is a 6V block. Check the voltage and terminals on the old battery before you order.

How it works

  • Valves: each cell has a low pressure release valve. Gas can escape and the valve then reseals.
  • Float and cyclic: float means the charger holds the battery topped up on standby. Cyclic means the battery is regularly discharged and fully recharged, which needs a different voltage.

Where to use it

Batteries of this type are often used as back-up in small equipment. Follow the battery size and type the equipment's maker asks for.

Keep it out of sealed enclosures. The gas it can release needs somewhere to go.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 20-hr and 10-hr rates: Ah is charge stored. The 4 Ah figure is measured over 20 hours and the 3.7 Ah figure over 10, because a faster discharge gets less out of a battery.
  • Correction factors: the -3 and -4 figures adjust the charge voltage when the temperature is not the standard 20°C. Chargers without this feature rely on a reasonably steady temperature.
  • 1 A charge limit: this applies to cyclic or boost charging. On float charge there is no limit.
  • 25 mΩ impedance: a lower value means the voltage sags less under load. It is a handy comparison when testing an old battery against a new one.

Installing it

  • Terminals: match your leads to the 4.75 mm FASTON tabs before you start, and keep polarity right.
  • Lifting: do not suspend the battery by any handles where they are fitted.
  • Short circuits: tape or cover a loose lead while you work, since a battery can deliver a very high current through a dropped tool.

Planning your system

Work out the standby load first, then check that this capacity covers the time you need. Add margin for ageing, because capacity falls over the years.

You will also need a suitable charger or charging circuit that matches the voltages above. A battery tester helps to spot a tired battery at each service visit.

Old batteries must go for recycling under local and national laws and regulations.

Standards and ratings explained

  • EUROBAT Standard Commercial: an industry class that describes the expected life band, here 3 to 5 years. Treat it as a planning guide rather than a promise.
  • UL.94:HB: a flammability class for plastics, and the lower of the two classes here. The flame retardant option is rated UL94:V0.
  • IEC61056: an international standard for portable lead acid cells and batteries of this valve regulated type.
