Heating & Ventilation Solutions

Heating controls switch a heating system on and off by temperature and time, and ventilation removes damp and stale air from bathrooms, kitchens and toilets. This range covers Sangamo time switches, Sangamo and Sangamo Choice mechanical, electronic, digital and wireless thermostats and programmers, Sangamo, Fort and Honeywell smart thermostats, a Honeywell Home wireless radiator thermostat, Knightsbridge 100mm extractor fans with timers, humidistats and LED backlights, gravity shutters, fan grilles, and a quartz infrared heater tube.

Choosing Heating & Ventilation Solutions

Choose heating controls by what they switch and how they are programmed, and extractor fans by the room, the controls it needs and its finish.

Thermostats

A room thermostat switches the heating to hold a set temperature. Sangamo Choice models include the RSTAT1 mechanical, CHPRSTATS electronic, CHPRSTATD digital and CHPRSTATDPRFS wireless digital programmable thermostats. The FSTAT1 is a frost thermostat that protects pipes and plant rooms in cold weather.

Programmers

Programmers switch heating and hot water by time. Sangamo Choice programmers come in 1 channel (CHPPR1), 2 channel (CHPPR2) and 3 channel (CHPPR3B) versions in white, black and silver, and the PSDF2 Powersaver Dual Flexi 2 is an economy programmer.

Extractor fans

The Knightsbridge EX1TWH, EX1TBK, EX1THWH, EX3TWH and EX4TSS 100mm extractor fans are rated IP45. Overrun timers are fitted on models such as the EX001T and EX1TWH, a humidistat on the EX1THWH, and LED backlit versions such as the EX3TWH and EX5TMB at 28.5dBA.

Shutters, grilles and heat

Knightsbridge 100mm gravity shutters close the outside vent when the fan stops, and 100mm fan grilles with a fly screen fit 4 inch ducting. The HEOT1300W is a 1300W shortwave infrared quartz heater tube with an R7s base.

Frequently asked questions

What types of home ventilation system are there?

Common types include intermittent extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms, continuous mechanical extract ventilation, and whole-house mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. Trickle vents in windows can add background ventilation. Intermittent fans, which run while a room is in use or on an overrun timer, are the usual choice for a single wet room. The range here includes extractor fans, gravity shutters and fan grilles.

What do central heating controls do?

Central heating controls decide when the heating and hot water come on and what temperature the rooms reach. A programmer or time switch sets the on and off times, a room thermostat keeps the house at the chosen temperature, and radiator thermostats fine-tune single rooms. Good controls help cut energy use without losing comfort. The range here includes programmers and room thermostats.

What are smart heating controls?

Smart heating controls are thermostats and radiator valves that connect to Wi-Fi or a hub, so you can set schedules and adjust temperatures using an app. Some add features such as room-by-room zoning or voice control. Check that the controller suits your boiler and existing wiring before choosing one. The range here includes Wi-Fi and wireless smart thermostats.

How do you control heating from your phone?

You need a smart or Wi-Fi thermostat wired into the heating system, plus the maker's app on your phone. Once the thermostat joins your home Wi-Fi, the app can change the temperature, set schedules and switch the heating on or off while you are away. Some models also need a receiver fitted near the boiler.
