LED Profiles & Channels

An LED profile is an aluminium channel that holds LED tape behind a diffuser, giving a neat line of light and a finished edge. This page gathers LYYT and Knightsbridge profiles for surface, corner, recessed, plaster-in, suspended and waterproof fitting, with diffusers such as opal, white crowned and clear covers. The clips, end caps and corner connectors to fix them are here, along with LYYT tape connectors, flexible links, extension leads and in-line controllers.

Choosing LED Profiles & Channels

Decide where the profile will sit, then the diffuser, then the fixings and joints.

Surface and corner profiles

Surface profiles clip onto a cabinet, shelf or ceiling. The LYYT 156.801UK deep section and 156.807UK short crown suit furniture and architectural details, while the 156.800UK 90 degree arc and 156.805UK 45° angle light edges and corners. The Knightsbridge 1MCOR is a corner profile for LED flex no wider than 10mm, supplied with 2 mounting clips, an opal diffuser and 2 end caps, for angled light under cabinets or shelving.

Recessed and plaster-in

Recessed profiles set the tape into the surface: the Knightsbridge 1MREC takes 12mm width LED flex and comes with 2 mounting clips, an opal diffuser and two end caps. Plaster-in profiles build the light into the wall. The LYYT 156.944UK flush mounted and 156.945UK internal corner profiles have a 3mm lip that holds a good bed of plaster and reduces the chance of cracking.

Special shapes and wet areas

The 156.843UK bends to a radius as small as 50mm for curved edges, the 156.820UK wardrobe rail has an oval cross-section for lighting walk-in wardrobes, and the 156.829UK tube batten hangs from a ceiling suspension kit as a neat alternative to a strip light. The 156.828UK 2 way bar carries two tapes for up and down lighting and can be painted. Where moisture is a risk, the 156.842UK has a heavy duty knock-in diffuser that forms a waterproof seal, for floors and walls.

Diffusers, fixings and joints

Diffusers include white crowned covers, as on the 156.808UK tall crown, and clear capping, as on the 156.907UK short crown. The 156.880UK is a pack of 10 clips, and the 156.967UK translucent corner connectors join short crown and 90 degree arc profiles on suspended runs. Inside the profile, the 156.147UK flexible links join lengths of tape without solder.

What width of LED tape fits a profile?

The Knightsbridge 1MREC and 1MPLA take LED flex of 12mm width at most and the 1MCOR takes 10mm at most. The LYYT 156.944UK flush profile takes one tape of 8-12.5mm, and the wider 156.959UK takes one or two tapes of 8-12mm.

How is a plaster-in LED profile fitted?

It is set into the wall or ceiling and plastered in, creating a seamless look. The LYYT 156.944UK flush, 156.945UK internal corner and 156.946UK external corner profiles have a 3mm lip that holds a good bed of plaster and reduces the chance of cracking. The Knightsbridge 1MPLA is a plaster-in recessed profile for wall installation.

Can an LED profile follow a curve?

Yes, the LYYT 156.843UK is made for it. This aluminium profile bends to a radius as small as 50mm and has a push-fit opaque diffuser, with end caps and mounting clips supplied, so it can follow straight or curved edges and surfaces. Rigid profiles such as the 156.800UK arc suit straight runs and corners.

Are end caps and clips supplied with the profiles?

Spare parts are sold separately. The Knightsbridge 1MREC includes 2 mounting clips and two end caps, and the LYYT 156.843UK comes with end caps and mounting clips. Extra parts include the Knightsbridge 1MPLACAP end cap pair and the LYYT 156.880UK pack of 10 clips.
