Nittan Sounders

Nittan sounders are addressable fire alarm sounders and sounder beacons. They include a ceiling or wall sounder, a sounder base for Evolution analogue addressable detectors, a combined sounder beacon, an IP65 high-output sounder beacon for exposed locations, and an optical smoke detector with a built-in sounder that uses a single address. The EV-SDR and EV-SDR Base each offer 12 tones selected by DIP switch.

Choosing Nittan Sounders

Decide first whether a point needs sound alone, sound with a visual warning, or a sounder built into the detector position.

Standalone sounders and sounder beacons

The EV-SDR is a low-profile sounder for ceiling or wall mounting, with 12 tones selected by DIP switch, including 3 approved tones, and it is a replacement for the EV-ABS sounder. The EV-AV2 combines a sounder and a beacon in one device, a simple and highly flexible way to meet DDA requirements. The EV-SDR and EV-AV2 are both standalone devices, not for use with a detector.

High output for exposed locations

The EV-HIOP-SB is a high-output sounder beacon designed for robust performance in outdoor settings. Its IP65 rating gives water and dust ingress protection for exposed locations, it has 32 selectable tones, and it suits commercial and industrial installations.

Sounders at the detector position

The EV-SDR Base is a low-profile, loop-powered addressable base sounder for ceiling mounting, compatible with all types of Evolution analogue addressable detectors, with 12 DIP-selected tones including 3 approved tones; the EV-SDR Base also replaces the EV-ABS sounder. The EV-PYS is an optical smoke detector with an integrated sounder of about 88dB(A) at 3.5mA and a 360° LED indicator. The EV-PYS needs only one address, which simplifies installation, and complies with EN54-3 and EN54-7.

Programming and signalling

The EV-SDR, EV-SDR Base, EV-AV2 and EV-HIOP-SB are each EEPROM addressed and use FSK signalling.

Frequently asked questions

Should I fit a standalone sounder or a sounder base?

Fit a sounder base where a detector will sit at that point, and a standalone sounder where there is no detector. The Nittan EV-SDR Base is a loop-powered base sounder compatible with all types of Evolution analogue addressable detectors, while the Nittan EV-SDR is a standalone ceiling or wall sounder, not for use with a detector. The EV-SDR and EV-SDR Base each have 12 DIP-switch tones, including 3 approved tones.

What should an outdoor fire alarm sounder have?

Look for an IP rating against dust and water, such as IP65, which under IEC 60529 means dust-tight and protected against water jets. The Nittan EV-HIOP-SB high-output sounder beacon is designed for outdoor settings, and its IP65 rating gives water and dust ingress protection for exposed locations. It has 32 selectable tones, 3 of them approved, EEPROM addressing and FSK signalling.

What do sounders do in a fire alarm system?

Sounders give the audible warning in a fire alarm system, and the European standard for fire alarm sounders is EN 54-3. Nittan's EV-SDR is a ceiling or wall sounder rated 73 to 88 dB(A) at 1 metre, and the EV-AV2 combines a sounder and a beacon. The EV-PYS optical smoke detector has an integrated sounder of about 88dB(A) and needs only one address.
