Veracity Extender
Veracity extenders take Ethernet, and often PoE, beyond the 100 m limit of a normal cable run, so IP cameras and other network devices can sit further from the switch. The range covers OUTREACH inline repeaters that turn a 100 m run into 200 m, LONGSPAN point-to-point links over Cat5e or Cat6, and HIGHWIRE units that carry Ethernet and PoE over existing coax when analogue cameras are upgraded to IP.

Choosing Veracity Extender
Work out the distance, the cable already in place and whether the far device needs power, then pick the family.
OUTREACH: double a standard run
An OUTREACH unit sits in line with the cable and restores the link, turning a 100 m segment into 200 m without local power, as it draws PoE from the switch. Lite models are powered by PoE but do not forward it: the VOR-ORL handles 10/100 links and the VOR-ORL-G full Gigabit. Max models forward PoE to the far device, the VOR-ORM supporting 802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3bt, and several can be daisy-chained every 100 m for longer runs. The VOR-ORM-XT and VOR-ORL-GXT sit in IP66/67, NEMA 4X/6P enclosures for outdoor use.
LONGSPAN: long point-to-point links
LONGSPAN units work as a pair over Cat5e or Cat6, and even single-pair UTP, and negotiate 10Base-T for the longest distances. The VLS-LSM-B gives full 100Base-TX at 820 metres on Cat 6, or 690 metres on Cat 5e, with 90W PoE capability (802.3bt). The VLS-1P-B base provides Ethernet and PoE/PoE+ to a camera-end unit, with SAFEVIEW LEDs for fault-finding at either end, while the VLS-1N-L Lite is data-only for locally powered devices.
HIGHWIRE: Ethernet over existing coax
HIGHWIRE reuses the coax from an analogue system to carry Ethernet and PoE to IP cameras. The VHW-HWPS-B8 base integrates eight channels and a gigabit switch, reaching 300m on RG59, 400m on RG6 and 500m on RG11, and four fit in 1U of rack space. The VHW-HWPS-CBB fits inside the camera housing. For the longest coax runs, the VLS-1P-BC and VLS-1P-CC Longstar units cover 540 - 690 metres on RG-59 or as much as 1400 metres on RG-11 at 100Base-T, and provide 25 watts of PoE Plus.

Frequently asked questions
How can I run Ethernet further than 100 metres?
Fit an extender. An OUTREACH repeater in line with the cable turns a 100 m run into 200 m, and more units can be chained every 100 m. A LONGSPAN pair runs one long cable instead: the VLS-LSM-B reaches 820 metres at 100Base-TX on Cat 6. With OUTREACH Max and Lite units combined, the VOR-ORL-XT supports network extensions up to 2.2 kilometres.
Does an extender pass PoE to the camera?
OUTREACH Max units do, and OUTREACH Lite units do not. Max units such as the VOR-ORM and VOR-ORM-XT forward 802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3bt PoE to the far device, while Lite units such as the VOR-ORL are powered by PoE but do not forward it, so the far device needs its own power. LONGSPAN PoE models such as the VLS-1P-B also provide PoE/PoE+.
Can I use existing coax for IP cameras?
Yes, HIGHWIRE units carry Ethernet and PoE over the coax already in place, which avoids re-cabling when upgrading analogue cameras to IP. The VHW-HWPS-B8 base handles eight channels at up to 300m on RG59 or 500m on RG11, the VHW-HWPS-CBB fits inside the camera housing, and Longstar units such as the VLS-1P-CC reach 1400m on RG11.
Is there an outdoor PoE extender?
Yes, the VOR-ORM-XT and VOR-ORM-GXT are outdoor OUTREACH Max units that forward PoE, including high-power 802.3bt, from rugged IP66/67, NEMA 4X/6P enclosures. The VOR-ORM-GXT operates from −40 °C to 70 °C and doubles a gigabit run to about 200 m, and the VOR-ORL-GXT is an outdoor OUTREACH Lite G for gigabit links.
What is the difference between LONGSPAN and OUTREACH?
OUTREACH restores the signal in line every 100 m, so one unit turns a 100 m run into 200 m, while LONGSPAN is a point-to-point pair over one long cable, reaching 820 metres at 100Base-TX on Cat 6 with the VLS-LSM-B. LONGSPAN also works over single-pair UTP, which suits upgrading analogue sites that used UTP baluns.
