C-TEC QT607 Quantec ceiling pull unit, unit with red pull cord and bangles

C-TEC Quantec Ceiling Pull Unit, 3m Red Cord with Bangles QT607

What this pull unit does

A ceiling pull gives someone a way to call for help when a button on the wall is out of reach. A long cord hangs down the room, and pulling it raises the call.

This C-TEC unit is part of a nurse call system, and it does not work alone. It is wired as a slave, meaning it signals through a master device.

How it works

  • The pull: pulling one of the bangles operates the cord. Open-sided bangles are easier to catch hold of than a plain cord.
  • The signal: the unit passes the call to the device it is wired to, which reports it to the Quantec system.
  • The glow: the red light is active in alarm, and shows the person that the call has been made.

Where to use it

One common position is an accessible toilet, and the QT951 Accessible Toilet Expansion Kit includes this unit for that job. It is indoor equipment, with IP21 and a range of -5°C to +40°C.

As a rule, the cord position and the height of the bangles should follow the design guidance for the room, and the cord should reach close to the floor so a person who has fallen can still use it.

What the figures mean in practice

  • IP21: protected against finger-sized objects and dripping water falling straight down, which is not the same as a wet room rating.
  • 6mA alarm current: this is the current drawn when the call is active.

Installing it

  • Fixing: the base fits 16mm conduit and BESA centres. A BESA box is the common round conduit box.
  • Terminals: connect Local +V, S and R to the master device, and follow C-TEC's instructions for the details.
  • Bangles: two are supplied, so follow C-TEC's instructions for where they sit on the cord.

Planning your system

Allow for a master device with each pull unit. That is usually a Quantec Addressable Call Point, or the Accessible Toilet Reset Point in a toilet.

As a rule, check the master's own limits on slave devices before adding several to one room.
