About this product

The Comelit PAC 909020112 is an access control reader in a slim mullion format, for fitting onto most door frames. It reads low and high frequency credentials, so it suits sites using more than one type of card or fob. It is rated IP65 and runs on 12–24V DC.

Key features

  • One reader for mixed credentials – PAC OPS™, PAC OPS™ Lite, PAC and KeyPAC
  • Accepts other makers' credentials – 3rd party credentials via Wiegand (a standard wiring format for door readers)
  • Covers both card frequencies – low frequency 125kHz and 153.6kHz, high frequency 13.56MHz
  • Clear feedback at the door – audible sounder and red/green LEDs
  • Fits a narrow frame – 48 (w) x 105 (h) x 28 (d) mm
  • Made for indoors or outdoors – IP65 and -40°C to +66°C
  • Detects interference – integral tamper circuit, with tamper output certified to EN 50131-1 and EN 50131-3

For installers

  • Power: 12–24V DC, <120mA @ 12V DC.
  • Mounting: onto most door frames, with integral mounting plate. 48 (w) x 105 (h) x 28 (d) mm, 0.150 kg.
  • Cabling: Cat 5 UTP or 24AWG 0.22mm2 unscreened security cable. Up to 70m reader powered from controller, 500m locally powered reader.

How close does a card need to be?

The maximum read range is 85 mm for low frequency credentials and 45 mm for high frequency credentials.

Can it be fitted outdoors?

Yes. It is rated IP65, is indoor and outdoor weather resistant, and works from -40°C to +66°C.

How far can it be from the controller?

Up to 70m when powered from the controller, or 500m when locally powered.

Which frequencies does it read?

Both low and high frequency: 125kHz and 153.6kHz, and 13.56MHz.

Comelit PAC GS3 MT Mullion Access Control Reader, LF and HF, Wiegand, IP65 909020112

What this mullion reader is for

A mullion is the narrow upright of a door frame, and a mullion reader is slim enough to sit on it. People present a card or fob, and the reader passes that identity on to the controller.

This reader is aimed at sites where several ID device types are in use. That often means a building changing over from older credentials, or one shared by different tenants.

It belongs in an access control system alongside a controller, and sits with other models in the proximity card readers range.

How it works

  • Two frequencies: low frequency credentials and high frequency credentials use different radio bands. This reader handles both, so one model can cover a mixed set of cards and fobs.
  • PAC credentials: it supports PAC OPS™, PAC OPS™ Lite, PAC and KeyPAC. PAC OPS cards and PAC OPS Lite cards are the matching card forms for this type of reader.
  • Output protocols: the reader sends the identity to the controller as PAC64, PAC32, PAC or Wiegand. Match the output to what your controller reads.
  • Feedback: an audible sounder and red/green LEDs show the user what has happened.

Where to use it

The IP65 rating and the wide temperature range suit exposed entrances as well as internal doors. Polycarbonate is a tough plastic, and this one is UL rated.

Security Grade 3 is an intruder grading. The grade of a complete system depends on all its parts, so check the whole design with your specifier.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Read range: low frequency reaches further here, at 85 mm against 45 mm. These are maximum figures, so real results depend on the credential and on the frame around the reader.
  • Cable distance: the 70m limit applies when the controller powers the reader. Powering it locally extends that to 500m, which helps on long runs.
  • Current draw: allow for <120mA @ 12V DC per reader when sizing the supply.

Installing it

The mounting plate is integral, and it can be installed onto most door frames. Check the frame is at least as wide as the 48 mm body before ordering.

Recommended cables are Cat 5 UTP or 24AWG 0.22mm2 unscreened security cable. Keep to one of these on the run back to the controller.

Planning your system

A complete door also needs a controller, a lock and a power supply. The access control guide explains how those parts fit together and what the fire strategy can require.

Reader line tamper can be configured when the reader is used with PAC 512 controllers, such as the PAC 512 DC.

For other credential forms, see the proximity cards and keyfobs range.
