What a door loop is for

A lock, reader or contact on a door leaf needs wires, yet the door has to keep moving. A door loop gives those wires a protected route across the gap.

This Haydon loop is armoured, so the wires are not left exposed where people could catch or cut them. Each end finishes at a cast aluminium cap, one on the frame and one on the door.

Where to use it

Door loops are common on access controlled doors, where the door carries an electric lock or a maglock armature with its own wiring.

They also suit door contacts and other alarm hardware mounted on the moving leaf. Because it is a surface mount part, it stays visible, so vandal resistance matters on public-facing doors.

What the figures mean in practice

• 60cm length: this is the loop's size. Open the door fully and check the loop can follow it without pulling tight at either end.
• 10mm internal diameter: every cable has to share this space. Measure the thickest part of each cable rather than its nominal size.

Installing it

• Fixing: both ends fix to the surface with the recessed screws supplied.
• Wire route: the wires end inside the door and frame, so drill for them behind each end cap before fixing.
• Testing: swing the door through its full travel several times, then re-test the lock or contact it feeds.

This is a cable route only, so the lock, power supply and cable are all separate. Choose those for the door first, then confirm they fit the loop.
