Frequently asked questions

Is a back box needed for this call point?

Yes, one way or another. Semi-flush mounting takes a single gang back box and terminal tray ETT-P, and surface mounting takes back box SR1T.

Does it have a built in isolator?

Yes. It is an addressable call point with in built isolator, giving integral loop isolation.

How is the address set?

With the two rotary decade switches on the rear of the unit. It uses one of 99 possible addresses.

Can it be used outdoors?

It is for indoor use, with a rating of IP24D. Do not plan on it for outdoor positions.

Can a cover be fitted to stop accidental operation?

Yes. Hinged transparent cover PS200 protects the element, and cover seal PS056 adds a seal that must break before the unit will operate.

Is the flexible element resettable?

Do not count on it. Resettable elements are a separate part, PS230, in a pack of 10, so check with the maker before relying on a reset.

Notifier M700KACI-FF addressable manual call point, angled front view

Notifier Addressable Manual Call Point with Isolator, Flexible Element, M700KACI-FF

Overview

A manual call point is the hand-operated part of a fire alarm: someone who sees a fire operates it, and the panel takes it from there.

This one belongs to Notifier's M700 series of manual call points. On an addressable system, the panel can name the device that was operated, which saves time finding it. That difference is covered in the guide to conventional or addressable fire alarm systems.

How it works

  • Operating element: Pressing the flexible element operates the unit. Glass and flexible element versions share one specification, under two part codes.
  • Isolation: An isolator lets the rest of a loop carry on working if one section has a short circuit.
  • Plug and play: The terminal block is separate from the unit, so cabling and fitting the call point happen at different stages of the job.

Where to use it

It is for indoor use. A rating of IP24D means, in general terms, protection against splashing water, and the D refers to protection against access with a wire. It is not a rating for outdoor exposure.

Call point positions come from the system design and the fire risk assessment, so take them from whoever holds the fire strategy.

Installing it

  • First fix: Wire the terminal block and fit a continuity link, so the loop can be tested before the call points go on.
  • Commissioning: Remove the links and push the terminal block into the connector at the back of the unit.
  • Paperwork: Mounting hardware and installation instructions come with each module.
  • Testing: A specialist test key may be inserted into the bottom of the unit. Check with the maker for the key's part number.

Planning your system

  • Back box: Allow for the semi-flush or surface parts named above, as they are separate from the call point.
  • Protection: Where accidental operation is a worry, cover PS200 and seal PS056 are the options. See the range of call point covers and detector guards for the wider category.
  • Panel check: Confirm the panel's protocol and loop capacity before ordering.
  • Rest of the range: For other makes and versions, browse all manual call points.

Standards and ratings explained

EN54 is the European series of standards for fire detection and alarm parts, and Part 11 covers manual call points. This call point is fully compliant with Part 11.
