About this product

The Vanderbilt PDM-I12T (V54530-F105-A100) is a PIR detector with anti-mask for intruder alarm systems. It suits installers who need EN 50131-2-2 Grade 3 detection across a 12m volumetric range. It reacts if someone tries to cover it, and its end of line resistors are already fitted.

Key features

  • Knows if it has been covered – integrated anti-mask function detects any potential covering
  • Even detection across the room – patented MAGIC Mirror, 12m volumetric range
  • Harder to crawl beneath – undercrawl protection on the 12m volumetric optics
  • Less trouble from lights – white-light filtering for car headlights or lamps
  • Less resistor wiring – end of line resistors are pre-fitted
  • Quicker to test – Auto Walktest without repeated openings of the detector
  • Light on the supply – 3.9mA (rms) in idle state

For installers

  • Power: nom. 12V DC, 9V DC ~ 16V DC, 3.9mA (rms) idle, 5.9mA (rms) with LED on. Alarm at 8.0V DC ± 0.5V DC.
  • Mounting: optional PZ-MBG2 bracket for wall and ceiling mounting, with cable guiding. Optional PO-FM flush mount housing base.
  • Cabling: pre-fitted end of line resistors, RI 4.7kΩ, RF 2.2kΩ, REOL 4.7kΩ.
  • Compatibility: ready for Vanderbilt SPC and Sintony alarm panels. Other panels by replacing the pre-fitted resistors with optional plug-in end of line boards.
  • Standards: VdS Class C, EN 50131-2-2 Grade 3, IP41 / IK02.

Frequently asked questions

What does anti-mask mean on a PIR detector?

It means the detector checks whether it has been covered. The PDM-I12T's integrated anti-masking monitors against covering.

What grade is the PDM-I12T?

Grade 3. It is approved to EN 50131-2-2 Grade 3 and VdS Class C.

How far does it detect?

12m with the standard volumetric mirror. The optional PO-C20 curtain mirror gives a gapless curtain of up to 20m.

Will it work with any alarm panel?

Not without checking the resistor values. It is ready for Vanderbilt's SPC and Sintony panels, and other panels need the matching optional plug-in end of line board in place of the pre-fitted resistors.

Is it pet immune as supplied?

Pet immunity is optional. With the PO-CL pet clip, the detector ignores motion caused by animals up to 20kg.

What supply does it need?

Nominal 12V DC, within a range of 9V DC ~ 16V DC. It draws 3.9mA (rms) in idle state.

Vanderbilt PDM-I12T PIR Detector, Anti-Mask, 12m Volumetric, Grade 3 V54530-F105-A100

Overview

A detector that can be covered up before the alarm is set gives no warning when it matters. This model is built for jobs where that risk has to be answered, with a mirror-based optic in a slim housing.

Vanderbilt's dual and PIR detectors share the same low-profile housing, so an intruder cannot tell which type is on the wall.

How it works

PIR stands for passive infrared. A PIR sensor reacts to heat moving across its view and sends out nothing itself.

  • Double mirror: the dual mirror design increases the focal length. This gives more homogeneous sensitivity, especially over wider areas.
  • VISATEC algorithm: This enhanced algorithm supports the mirror optic.
  • Anti-mask monitoring: masking means blocking a detector's view, for example by covering it. The anti-mask circuit is there to catch that.

Where to use it

Use it on graded alarm systems where the risk assessment calls for Grade 3. The IP41 / IK02 housing and -10°C ~ 55°C operating range describe its limits, so check them against the location.

As a rule, IP41 gives little protection against water, so a dry, sheltered position is the sensible choice.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Walk speeds: 0.1 m/s ~ 4.0 m/s is the band of movement speeds covered, from very slow movement to a run.
  • Current draw: low standby current helps when sizing the back-up battery in the panel, because every detector adds to the standby load.
  • Voltage control: the detector raises an alarm at 8.0V DC ± 0.5V DC, so a failing supply shows itself rather than going unnoticed.
  • RAL9003: this is a standard colour reference for a signal white finish.

Installing it

  • Resistors: end of line resistors let an alarm panel tell a healthy circuit from a cut or shorted cable. Here they come pre-fitted, which removes resistor wiring on Vanderbilt panels.
  • Bracket: the optional PZ-MBG2 suits wall and ceiling mounting. The optional PO-FM flush mount housing base and PO-MHB12 metalized housing base are other options.
  • Walk test: Auto Walktest avoids reopening the detector or changing DIP switches, so testing causes less disturbance to the install.
  • Sensitivity: sensitivity is adjustable, so set it to the room during commissioning.

Planning your system

The job also needs a compatible alarm panel, cable and a supply within the range above. On a panel outside the SPC and Sintony ranges, match the panel's resistor values to one of the optional plug-in end of line boards before ordering.

For a different coverage shape, the PO-C20 curtain mirror is an option. For homes or sites with animals, read about pet immunity before choosing a mounting position.

The PDM-I12T sits within the wider Vanderbilt range. If it will replace an existing detector, check that the panel input supports the end of line values before swapping.

Standards and ratings explained

  • EN 50131-2-2 Grade 3: EN 50131 is the European standard for intruder alarm systems, and part 2-2 covers passive infrared detectors. Security grades run from 1 to 4, and a higher grade answers a higher risk.
  • VdS Class C: VdS is a German testing and approval body, and this is the class for this model.
  • IP41 / IK02: IP covers solids and water, and IK covers resistance to impact. A low IK number means it is not intended to take knocks.
