About this product

The Vanderbilt GM760 (V54534-F108-A100) is a seismic vibration detector for protecting safes, vaults and ATMs. It suits installers working on steel, concrete and lightweight synthetic materials. It covers a 5m radius on concrete and 2m on steel, and its sensitivity and response times are programmable.

Key features

  • Picks up tools and attacks – hammers, drills, thermal tools and explosives among them
  • Works on more than one material – steel, concrete and lightweight, synthetic materials
  • Built to separate real attacks from ambient noise – digital signal processing and a Senstec® bimorph sensor
  • Tune it to the job – programmable sensitivity levels and response times
  • Keeps a record – built-in memory of 100 events
  • Shows interference – cover and surface contact opens on sabotage
  • Small draw on the supply – Ityp = 2.5mA ~ 3.5mA

For installers

  • Power: nom. 12VDC, VCC = 8VDC ~ 16VDC, Ityp = 2.5mA ~ 3.5mA, Imax = 5mA.
  • Mounting: GMXP0 mounting plate strongly recommended, and mandatory on uneven steel surfaces and concrete. 89mm x 89mm x 22mm.
  • Cabling: alarm relay opens on alarm, 30VDC / 100mA / Ri < 45Ω. Tamper contact load 30VDC / 100mA.
  • Compatibility: relay alarm and tamper outputs. Check your panel's input against these ratings. Setup by 3 fixed DIP settings or SensTool PC Software.
  • Standards: UL, CCC, RCM, CNPP, IMQ, INCERT, REQ, NBÚ, PIE, MABISZ, PD6662, IP43.

Frequently asked questions

What does a seismic detector do?

It listens for vibration through the structure it is fixed to. All known types of intruder attack generate unique vibration patterns, and the GM760 analyses them.

How far does the GM760 detect?

5m radius and 80m2 of coverage on concrete. On steel and lightweight synthetic materials, it is 2m and 12m2.

Does it need the mounting plate?

On uneven steel surfaces and concrete, yes. The GMXP0 plate is mandatory there and strongly recommended on every Senstec® seismic detector.

Can it be set up without a PC?

Yes, within limits. It has 3 fixed DIP settings, while SensTool PC Software makes it fully configurable.

What can it be fitted to?

Vaults, safes, night deposits, ticket machines, vending machines and ATMs armoured with synthetic materials are its applications.

How can it be tested?

With a test transmitter. Time to alarm is ≤ 3s with the GMXS1 and ≤ 90s with the GMXS5.

Vanderbilt GM760 Seismic Vibration Detector for Safes and Vaults, Programmable V54534-F108-A100

Overview

A safe or strong room can be attacked through its walls or door, and a door contact or a motion sensor may not notice. This detector senses the attack through the structure itself.

It is the all-purpose unit in the GM7xx series. It is aimed at round-the-clock monitoring wherever valuable assets or dangerous goods are concentrated.

How it works

Seismic here means vibration carried through a solid material. Each type of attack has its own pattern of timing, frequency and amplitude, and those values are what the unit analyses.

  • Bimorph sensor: a bimorph is a sensing element made of two bonded layers that gives an electrical signal when flexed. Vanderbilt uses its Senstec® version for detection sensitivity.
  • Narrow frequency band: the processing evaluates a selected narrow band, which helps it ignore unrelated noise.
  • Event memory: the stored events can help when working out what happened after an alarm.

Where to use it

It suits vaults, safes, night deposits, ticket machines and vending machines, along with ATMs armoured with synthetic materials. It has an IP43 housing and a -40°C ~ 70°C range, so check the location against those limits.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Radius by material: coverage depends on what the unit is fixed to. Plan on 5m on concrete, but only 2m on steel and lightweight synthetic materials.
  • Alarm hold time: ca. 2.5s is how long the relay stays open after an alarm, so check the panel input will register it.
  • Voltage monitoring: it signals an alarm if voltage is low, which shows up a failing supply.

Installing it

  • Mounting plate: this is the part most likely to be missed. The GMXP0 is mandatory on uneven steel surfaces and concrete, and it ensures reliable detection performance.
  • Recessed fitting: options include the GMXB0 floor recess box and the GMXW0 wall / ceiling recess box.
  • Set-up: SensTool software can program the detector beforehand or on site, and it shows structure-borne sounds visually.
  • Testing: the GMXS1 fits inside the detector for function and mounting tests of a single unit before arming.

Planning your system

The job also needs an alarm panel or other input to read the relay and tamper contacts, plus a supply in the range above. Match the contact ratings to the input.

Other parts include the GMXD7 anti-drill foil and GMXP3 lock protection. Ask the system designer which ones the risk assessment calls for.

This detector sits alongside access products in the wider Vanderbilt range, and alongside other vibration units in the seismic and glass break range.

Standards and ratings explained

  • IP43: protected against solid objects from about 1mm upwards and against spraying water, in the general meaning of the rating.
  • PD6662: this is the British published document that sets out how EN 50131 applies to alarm systems in the UK.
  • Grading: check the security grade you need against the unit's documentation before specifying it.
