A built-in relay timer, adjustable from 2 to 30 seconds, sits behind a surface-mounted stainless steel plate.

Key features

  • Door stays released long enough to pass – time adjustment POT: 2 - 30 seconds
  • Wires straight to a lock – fail safe or fail secure, or to an access control PTE input
  • Built-in relay – contacts CO, NO, NC
  • Tough button – Vandal Resistant (MP0042/2) switch button
  • No back box to sink – surface: direct wall fixing
  • Clear to users – legend reads PRESS TO EXIT

For installers

  • Power: 12Vac or dc input. Standby 20mA (max.), relay energised 60mA (max.). +Out 12Vdc unregulated, 500mA (max.).
  • Mounting: surface, direct wall fixing. Button plate 85 (W) x 85 (L) x 1.8 (D) mm; surface box 85 (W) x 85 (L) x 38 (D) mm. For internal use.
  • Cabling: +Out (12Vdc, unregulated) and relay contacts CO, NO, NC. Relay contacts rated 30Vdc.
  • Compatibility: connects directly to a lock (fail safe or fail secure) or to an access control system PTE input.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the door stay released?

Between 2 and 30 seconds, set on the time adjustment POT.

Will it work with a magnetic lock?

Yes. It can be connected directly to a fail safe lock, such as a maglock, or to a fail secure lock.

Can it be fitted outside?

No. The SP80/ST is for internal use.

What power does it need?

A 12Vac or dc input. It draws 20mA (max.) on standby and 60mA (max.) with the relay energised.

Does it need a flush back box?

No. It is surface mounted with direct wall fixing.

Videx SP80/ST timed push to exit button, front view

Videx Timed Push to Exit Button, Surface Stainless Steel, 2-30 Seconds SP80/ST

Overview

An electric lock needs a way out from the inside, and a push to exit button is the simplest one. This version adds a timer, so the door stays released for a set time after the button is let go.

It is the surface-mounted member of Videx's stainless steel range, for walls where a flush box is awkward or not allowed.

How it works

  • Timer and relay: pressing the button starts the PTX timer, which holds the relay changed over for the set time. The relay's CO, NO and NC contacts switch the lock or signal the controller.
  • Own supply: the timer runs from a 12Vac or dc input, and a +Out terminal passes on 12Vdc unregulated.
  • Fail safe or fail secure: a fail safe lock, such as a magnetic lock, is held while powered and releases when power is cut. A fail secure lock stays locked without power and opens when powered.

Where to use it

The SP80/ST is for internal use, so fit it on the secure side of the door. It suits any door where an access control system or a simple lock circuit controls the lock.

On an escape route, a push to exit button usually works alongside a green emergency door release so the door still opens if the electronics fail. Agree that with whoever holds the building's fire strategy.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 2 - 30 seconds: long enough for a quick exit or for someone pushing a trolley or wheelchair. Set it to the slowest regular user rather than the fastest.
  • Relay contacts 30Vdc: fine for switching a low-voltage lock circuit. Do not use the contacts on mains voltage.
  • +Out 500mA (max.): the most the 12Vdc output can supply, so check the lock's current before powering it from here.

Installing it

  • Fixing: the 85 (W) x 85 (L) x 38 (D) mm surface box fixes directly to the wall.
  • Cabling: run supply and switching cores from the lock power supply or controller. As a rule, a fail safe lock is wired through NC and a fail secure lock through NO; with a controller, follow its exit input wiring.
  • Setting the time: adjust the POT, then test the door with the slowest expected user.

Planning your system

A complete door needs the lock, a suitable access control power supply, a reader or keypad on the outside, and this button on the inside. Magnetic locks are the commonest partner, and the magnetic door lock guide explains how fail-safe locks behave.

For a flush timed version, Videx makes the SP80/T, and the SP80/S is the untimed surface button. Browse other exit buttons and door release options to compare.
