Videx VR120/138-10/V/CL video door entry panel with codelock, front view

Videx VR120 Vandal Resistant Video Door Entry Panel, 10 Button, Codelock, VX2200 VR120/138-10/V/CL

Overview

This is the part of a door entry system that a visitor actually uses at the entrance. It joins speech, a picture of the caller and keyless entry, so a visitor can ring through while a regular user simply types a code.

With 10 buttons, each of the ten calling points has its own place on the face, so a visitor reaches the right one first time.

How it works

  • Speech: the 138 functional speaker module handles the call, with reassurance tones and acoustic signals alongside the coloured lights.
  • Picture: the 130 colour camera sends its picture as balanced or coax video, chosen during set-up.
  • Codelock: the VR4901/NFP is a 3 code, 3 relay module fitted to the panel itself. Its back-lit buttons help partially sighted users find the keys.
  • Lock contacts: volt free means the relay is a plain switch with no voltage of its own, so a door lock or gate control runs from its own supply.

Where to use it

This panel belongs at an entrance that takes hard use. The face is stainless steel with an IK10 impact rating and an IP55 ingress rating for the panel as a whole.

The intercom guide explains why a rain shield matters at an exposed entrance, and the surface box option for this panel has a rainshield surround built in.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 120 x 500 mm: the face size for this code, so check the wall or opening allows for it before ordering.
  • 170° horizontal: the width of the camera's view, against 80° vertically. Mount the panel where that view takes in the area in front of the door.
  • 24Vac/dc @ 2A: the most the lock relay is rated to switch. Compare it with the lock's own figures before wiring it in.
  • 200mA and 100mA: the most the speaker module and camera draw in operation. Add both to the supply calculation for the whole system.

Installing it

This code comes with the VRFB120x500 flush box, which is 50 mm deep, so allow for that depth when planning the recess. Settle the position before first fix, because the box sets the size of the opening.

Where a wall cannot take a recess, the VRSB120x500 surface box has a 1.2mm thick rainshield surround. The VRBB120x500 bezel box stays flush and has an 18mm bezel surround to frame the opening.

On an escape route, a lock usually needs a separate release route as well. Speak to whoever holds the fire strategy, and read the access control guide first.

Planning your system

  • Supporting parts: in most installations a working system also needs indoor monitors or handsets and a power supply. Browse the intercom accessories range, and choose only parts made for VX2200.
  • Power: the 521B power supply suits both the speaker module and the camera. The 893N power supply is also compatible with the camera.
  • The lock: an electric strike or a maglock is a common choice for a door, so check the lock's voltage and current against the relay limit.
  • Leaving the building: a request to exit can be wired to the PTE input, which works on switched 0V. Exit buttons are a common way to do it, so check the button's contact suits that input.
  • High contrast buttons: each call button can be upgraded to a VXSSB/Y button with a yellow bezel, using the VXSSB/Y/UPGRADE code.

Standards and ratings explained

  • IP55 and IP68: an IP rating describes protection from dust and water. The higher IP68 figure belongs to the call buttons only, so it does not describe the whole panel.
  • IK10: an IK rating describes resistance to impact, and IK10 is the top of the standard scale.
  • DDA: short for the Disability Discrimination Act, the older UK law on disabled access. Here the term applies to the call progress lights.
