QTX Mirror Balls

Here you will find QTX mirror balls and the motors that turn them. Glass mirror balls come in 10cm, 15cm, 20cm and 30cm sizes fitted with a metal hanging ring, while the professional mirror balls come in 30cm, 40cm, 50cm, 80cm and 100cm sizes, with 7mm polished tiles and double hanging points for safety. Mirror ball motors carry loads from 2kg to 5kg. Among them are the battery powered 153.106UK and the 153.107UK with 18 LEDs.

Choosing QTX Mirror Balls

Choose the ball for the room and the hanging point, then a motor rated for the weight of the ball.

Glass mirror balls

The glass balls suit a traditional party atmosphere. Used with white or coloured pin spots, they create a multitude of different beams, and they give a glittering display with a mirror ball motor and a spot light. The 151.581UK is 10cm across with 7x7mm facets and weighs 0.24kg, the 151.582UK is 15cm with 10x10mm facets, the 151.583UK is 20cm with 10mm facets, and the 30cm 151.585UK weighs 2.3kg.

Professional mirror balls

The professional balls are made for nightclubs, theatres, ballrooms and stages, and for use at great heights. Each has an expanded polyethylene inner ball and double hanging points for safety. Weight climbs quickly with size: the 40cm 151.413UK weighs 3.3kg, the 50cm 151.414UK 6.5kg, the 80cm 151.415UK 20kg and the 100cm 151.416UK 42kg, so plan the hanging point for the full load.

Motors

Match the load rating of the motor to the ball. The 151.611UK is a low noise motor for balls up to 3kg, with a 0.6m cable and UK plug, and a 15cm chain and fixing screws included. The 153.106UK runs on one 1.5V D battery, not supplied, for balls up to 2kg in venues without wall socket outlets, and has an on/off switch. The 153.107UK takes balls up to 3kg and adds 18 focused LEDs for a pin spot effect from the top of the ball, in static or slow colour changing operation. The 153.198UK heavy duty motor, in a strong metal case, takes balls up to 5kg and 50cm diameter.

As a check, the 30cm glass 151.585UK at 2.3kg is within the 3kg rating of the 151.611UK, and the 40cm professional 151.413UK at 3.3kg is within the 5kg rating of the 153.198UK.

Frequently asked questions

Which motor do I need for my mirror ball?

Pick a motor whose load rating is above the weight of the ball. The 153.106UK takes balls up to 2kg, the 151.611UK and 153.107UK up to 3kg, and the 153.198UK up to 5kg and 50cm diameter. The 30cm glass 151.585UK weighs 2.3kg, more than the 2kg load of the 153.106UK.

Can I turn a mirror ball without a wall socket?

Yes, a battery powered mirror ball motor turns the ball without mains power, so it can be used where there is no wall socket. The QTX 153.106UK is made for venues without wall socket outlets and runs on one 1.5V D battery, which is not supplied. It turns mirror balls up to 2kg at 6rpm and has an on/off switch, and the 153.107UK is a battery operated LED motor rated for balls up to 3kg.

What is the difference between glass and professional mirror balls?

Glass mirror balls hang from a single metal hanging ring, while professional mirror balls have double hanging points for safety when hung high. The QTX 20cm glass ball 151.583UK has 10mm facets and is used with a mirror ball motor and spot light. The professional balls, such as the 80cm 151.415UK, have 7mm polished tiles on an expanded polyethylene inner ball and are made for use at great heights in venues such as theatres and ballrooms.

What light do I need with a mirror ball?

A mirror ball needs a light aimed at it to throw reflections around the room. The glass balls can be used with white or coloured pin spots to create a multitude of different beams, and give a glittering display of light with a mirror ball motor and spot light. The 153.107UK motor builds the light in, with 18 focused LEDs, six each of red, green and blue.

What size mirror ball should I choose?

Size the ball to the room and to what the hanging point and motor can carry. The 10cm 151.581UK weighs 0.24kg and the 20cm 151.583UK 0.67kg, while the 50cm professional 151.414UK weighs 6.5kg and the 100cm 151.416UK 42kg.
