Wire Strippers & Crimpers

Wire strippers and crimpers prepare cable and fit its connectors. The range includes ratchet crimpers for RJ45 and RJ11 plugs, pass-through crimp tools with matching EZ crimps, a CAT5 and CAT6 jacket stripper, an IDC punch-down tool, a coaxial stripper, hex crimpers for BNC, TNC and F-type connectors, an F connector spanner, and ratchet pliers for insulated electrical terminals. Examples include the Mercury 710.278UK and the Haydon HAY-RG59CRIMP.

Choosing Wire Strippers & Crimpers

Choose the tool by the cable you are working on and the connector you are fitting.

Network and telephone cable

The Mercury 710.266UK cuts and strips CAT5/5E/6/7 network cable and crimps RJ45 connectors, and its ratchet releases once the handles have been fully squeezed together. The 710.263UK ratchet pliers take 6P and 8P modular plugs of types RJ-45, RJ-12 and RJ-11. For pass-through plugs, the Haydon HAY-V2RJ45TOOLRAP crimps and trims in a single action with integrated cutting and stripping blades, while the EZRJ45T cuts and crimps in one operation and works with EZRJ45C crimps, sold in a pack of 10. The Haydon CAT5/6 jacket stripper strips and cuts telephone and network cables with diameters between 3.2mm and 9mm. To terminate into patch panels, telephone sockets and keystone faceplates, the 710.289UK punch-down tool secures the wires by pressure and its spring-loaded blade trims the excess.

Coaxial cable

The Haydon RS rotary stripper has three adjustable blades and a built-in allen key for RG59, RG58 and RG6 cable. The Haydon HAY-RG59CRIMP is a ratchet-controlled BNC crimp tool for centre contacts and ferrules, with hex crimps at 6.5, 5.4, 4.7 and 1.7 mm. The Mercury 710.282UK crimps hex type connectors such as BNC, TNC or F-Type onto coaxial cable. The 120.918UK spanner tightens and loosens F-connectors with one end and holds them during fitting with the other.

Electrical terminals

The Mercury 710.278UK ratchet-action pliers crimp insulated terminals at factory-set pressures in a red channel for 0.5 to 1.00 mm2, a blue channel for 1.5 to 2.5 mm2 and a yellow channel for 4.0 to 6.0 mm2.

Frequently asked questions

How do you use a wire stripper?

Set the stripper to the cable size by choosing the matching notch or adjusting the blade depth, then place the cable in the jaws at the length to strip. Close the tool and, on a rotary stripper, turn it around the cable before pulling the cut jacket away. Check the conductors are not nicked before terminating them. The range here includes a rotary stripper and a pocket cable stripper.

What is a wire stripper?

A wire stripper is a hand tool that removes the insulation or outer jacket from a cable without cutting the conductors inside. Rotary types for coaxial cable use adjustable blades to set the depth of the cut, and some crimp tools add stripping blades so one tool prepares and terminates the cable. The range here includes coaxial and network cable strippers and crimping tools.
