C-TEC CAST-PRO Smoke and Heat Multisensor Detector, Addressable CP414

Overview

A multisensor looks for both smoke and heat, so it can confirm a real fire with two signals instead of one. This C-TEC detector belongs to the CAST-PRO range for ZFP addressable panels.

It is the detector-only version, with no sounder or beacon. Where an alarm sound or a visual alarm device is needed at the same point, plan a separate device for it.

How it works

• MASC™ chamber: a miniature advanced smoke detection chamber that samples the air for smoke.
• AFFIRM™ algorithms: C-TEC's algorithms give tolerance to false alarms.
• Drift compensation: dust slowly builds up in any chamber, and the detector adjusts for it over time.

Where to use it

It works at up to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing, and is rated IP21C. That makes it an indoor ceiling device for dry spaces.

It has 8 detection modes, with Mode 7 as the default.

What the figures mean in practice

• 570uA quiescent: the standing current @ 40V, which goes into the loop load calculation for the panel.
• Onboard isolator: a short circuit on the cable is cut off at the nearest devices, so the rest of the loop keeps working.
• IP21C: protected against fingers and against vertically falling drops of water, so keep it away from wet areas.

Installing it

The detector needs the C-TEC CA408 CAST base, which has an integrated locking mechanism and ID tag. Where a relay output is wanted at the head, use the C-TEC CA408R relay base instead.

The wiring is 2-wire and polarity sensitive, so check polarity at every base before fitting heads.
