C-TEC CAST-PRO Smoke and Heat Multisensor with Tone Sounder, 92dB(A), Addressable CP414T

Overview

A combined detector and sounder saves a second device and a second fixing on the ceiling. This C-TEC unit detects smoke and heat and gives its own tone alarm.

It is built for one family of panels only, so it suits sites already running, or planning, a C-TEC CAST system.

How it works

• Multisensor: a detector that reads more than one sign of fire. This one combines smoke and heat, which helps it confirm a real fire.
• MASC™ and AFFIRM™: MASC™ stands for Miniature Advanced Smoke Detection Chamber. With the AFFIRM™ algorithms it is designed to tolerate false alarms while still detecting real fires.
• Detection modes: there are 8 detection modes, with Mode 7 as the default. Different sensitivities can be used for different times of the day.
• Loop isolator: a short circuit on one part of an addressable loop is cut off by the isolator, so the rest of the loop keeps working.

Where to use it

It suits ordinary indoor rooms and corridors where a fire alarm sounder is needed close to the detector. The rating is IP21C.

In most buildings, areas with steam, heavy dust or outdoor exposure need a different device.

What the figures mean in practice

• 92dB(A) at 1m: the sound level measured close to the device. It falls with distance, so sounder coverage is planned room by room.
• 5.4mA in alarm: the current at maximum volume. Loop and battery calculations should use this figure, not the 590uA quiescent current.
• 65mm deep in base: the total depth below the ceiling once the head sits in its CA408 base.

Installing it

Fit the CA408 CAST base first and wire the loop through it, keeping polarity correct. Where something else must switch on alarm, the CA408R relay base can be used instead.

Terminal 3 on the base serves a remote LED, which helps where the detector sits out of sight.

• EN54-3, 5, 7, 17 & 29: parts of the EN54 series covering sounders, heat detectors, smoke detectors, short circuit isolators and multi-sensor detectors. This device is KIWA certified to all five.
• CPR number: the Construction Products Regulation reference for the certification, 0063-CPR-242190019.
• IP21C: basic protection against fingers and vertically dripping water, which suits indoor use.
