What this module is for

An addressable fire alarm system gives each device on the loop its own address, so the panel knows exactly what is happening and where. This module sits on that loop and gives the panel four relay outputs to work with.

A building owner would normally meet it as part of a wider fire alarm job. It is mainly an installer's part, chosen when a panel needs to signal other equipment.

How it works

  • Relay outputs: a relay is a switch worked by the module, so the fire alarm circuit stays separate from the circuit being switched.
  • Isolator: a short-circuit isolator cuts off a faulty section of loop, so a short does not take out the whole loop.
  • Loop power: the module takes its supply and its commands over the same two loop wires.

Where to use it

As a rule, output modules are used to signal things such as door releases, plant shutdown or a link to another system. The fire strategy for the building decides what must be linked, and how.

The IP55 rating and -10 ÷ 60 °C range give some scope beyond a clean indoor riser. The grey plastic box is made for surface mounting.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 1A@30VDC/0.5A@125VAC: the most each output should carry. Look at the load's full current before connecting it.
  • 0.18 mA in stand-by: this counts towards the loop's total, so add it to the panel's loop calculation, along with 4 mA with 1 LED ON.

Installing it

  • Wiring room: the larger box has increased dimensions to make input and output wiring easier.
  • Terminals: size conductors to suit the 0.4 ÷ 2.0 terminal range.
  • Commissioning: as a rule, each output needs an address and programming at the panel before it will act. Test every link it controls.

Planning your system

Confirm the panel first, because addressable devices rely on the panel's protocol. Add fire-rated cable for the loop, and a separate circuit for whatever the relays switch.
