What this controller is for

Security lights that come on at the wrong time waste energy and annoy the neighbours. A lighting controller gives you one point for deciding what comes on and when, instead of adjusting each light on its own.

The DygiZone is part of the security lighting range from GJD, and it sits indoors where the user can reach it. The white version may suit pale walls.

How it works

• Zones: a zone is an area treated as one, such as a car park or a side path. This unit has four.
• Timers: there are 2 programmable timers, and control runs across the full 24 hours.
• Override: the system override is for times when you need the lights to behave differently from the normal setting.
• Messages: there are 4 x recordable messages. Playback uses more power, as the input figures show.

Where to use it

Applications are residential, commercial and industrial. Mount the unit somewhere clean and dry, such as a reception, an office or a utility room.

The temperature range is -10ºC to +55ºC, but the indoor-only rule still applies in a porch or garage.

What the figures mean in practice

• 12 VDC: this unit runs on low voltage direct current, so it needs a suitable 12 VDC supply.
• 20mA and 100 mA: standby is the normal draw, and the higher figure applies when triggered with message playback. Size the supply for the higher one.

Installing it

• Back box: it can go on a standard single or double flush back box, so plan the box and cable route before decorating.
• Wiring: follow GJD's installation manual for connecting the zones.

Planning your system

You also need the lights themselves, any detectors that trigger them and a 12 VDC supply. Check that each one suits this controller before ordering.

Pointing lights well matters as much as controlling them. Light pollution often comes from aim, so check each light's angle once the zones are set.
