DC Power Supplies
A DC power supply is a unit that converts mains AC into a steady, regulated direct current for the equipment connected to it. This range covers boxed, cased, encapsulated and DIN-rail DC supplies for CCTV, access control, door entry and alarm systems, including IP66 versions and units with battery backup, from makers including AMG Systems, Comnet, Dantech, Elmdene, Haydon, Hikvision and Raytec.

Choosing DC Power Supplies
Choose a DC supply by the voltage and current of the load, where it mounts, and whether it must carry on when the mains fails.
Output
12V supplies, often at 13.8V nominal to charge a standby battery, power many cameras, readers and locks. 24V supplies suit door entry and some cameras, and 48V units such as the Hikvision DRL-48V240W1EN and the 150W DS-KAW150-4N serve higher-power equipment.
Mounting
The Haydon HAY-PSU12V3ABB is a boxed supply in a metal box with room for a battery. DIN-rail supplies, such as the AMG Systems AMGPSU-T12-P15 and Comnet PS-A24060, clip into a control cabinet, and the Elmdene VRS122000EB is an encapsulated supply. DMP ES501 and ES502 metal enclosures with a hinged cover protect a plug-in transformer.
Site conditions
For exposed positions, the Haydon HAY-PSUIP1X2A-12VDC is a 12V DC supply in an IP66 polycarbonate enclosure.
| Model | Mounting | Feature |
|---|---|---|
| Haydon HAY-PSU12V5ABBL | Boxed | 13.8V, 5A, battery backup |
| Haydon HAY-DC24V3ABBLPSU | Boxed | 24V, 3A, mains-fail relay |
| AMG Systems AMGPSU-T12-P15 | DIN rail | Cabinet mounting |
Battery backup and fused outputs
Haydon boxed supplies with battery backup keep security systems running through a power cut, and most have tamper detection. Elmdene FOM-4 and FOM-8 fused output modules split one supply into separately fused circuits, so a fault on one camera does not take down the rest.

Frequently asked questions
What is a DC power supply used for?
A DC power supply powers equipment that runs on low-voltage direct current, such as CCTV cameras, access control readers and locks, door entry panels and alarm devices. Some are wired to the mains and some plug in, and one supply can feed several devices from one point.
Why are 12V power supplies rated at 13.8V?
A 13.8V output can run 12V equipment and keep a standby battery charged at the same time. Supplies here with a 13.8V output include the RGL 1202SM-1, the Haydon HAY-PSU12V5ABBL and HAY-PSU12V2ABB and the Elmdene G13805NU. The Elmdene G13805NU gives 13.8V dc at 5A to load plus battery charging, and the Haydon HAY-PSU12V3ABB gives 12 V DC at 13.8 V nominal with battery backup.
What is a DIN-rail power supply?
A DIN-rail supply clips onto the standard rail inside a control cabinet or distribution enclosure, alongside other rail-mounted devices. AMG Systems AMGPSU units, the Comnet PS-A24060 and the Axis 5505-731 are DIN-rail supplies in this range, and the Comnet PS-MORD4860 mounts to standard 35 mm DIN rail.
Can a DC power supply be installed outdoors?
Some can. IP66 supplies, such as the Haydon HAY-PSUIP1X2A-12VDC, are sealed against dust and water jets for exposed positions. The HAY-PSUIP1X2A-12VDC has a wide AC input and a regulated 12 V DC output rated to 2 A (24 W), and is designed for outdoor CCTV cameras, PTZ heads and gate controllers.
What is a fused output module?
A fused output module, such as the Elmdene FOM-4 or FOM-8, splits one supply into four or eight separately fused outputs. A fault on one device then blows the fuse of that circuit, and the other cameras or readers on the supply keep running.
Which Dantech supplies accept a wide mains voltage range?
Several Dantech supplies accept mains voltage from as little as 90V to 270V at 47 to 63Hz, including the DA665/1 and DA665/2 and their IP66 versions. The DA665/1 gives a regulated 12VDC output, 4A in total, through one fused output, and the DA665/2 has two individually fused 12VDC 2A outputs. The DA665 units are intended for CCTV cameras and can be used in a range of security applications.
Is there a 48V DC power supply?
Yes. The Hikvision DRL-48V240W1EN and DRL-48V75W1AZ and the DS-KAW150-4N are 48V supplies, the DS-KAW150-4N rated 150W. Check that the supply's voltage matches the equipment's rating plate, and choose a wattage above the total load it will carry so the supply is not run at its limit.
Which DC supplies keep running in a power cut?
Boxed supplies with battery backup, such as the Haydon HAY-PSU12V5ABBL at 13.8V 5A and the HAY-DC24V3ABBLPSU at 24V 3A, charge a standby battery and run from it when the mains fails. The HAY-DC24V3ABBLPSU adds a mains-fail relay and has short circuit and overload protection.
