Haydon Power Supply Units

Haydon power supply units feed CCTV, access control, intruder alarm and fire alarm equipment. This page covers boxed 12V and 24V DC supplies that charge a standby battery, EN54-4 fire alarm power supplies with a 27.6V DC output, a switchable access control supply, multi-output CCTV supplies, 24 VAC supplies for cameras, IP66 outdoor units, and inline adaptors including a 48V DC supply for PoE recorders.

Choosing Haydon Power Supply Units

Start from the voltage and current the equipment needs, allow some headroom, then decide whether the supply must keep running on battery when the mains fails.

Battery-backed boxed supplies

Boxed supplies charge a standby battery and keep the load running when the mains fails. The HAY-PSU12V1ABB, HAY-PSU12V2ABB and HAY-PSU12V3ABB give 1A, 2A and 3A at 12V DC, and the 2A and 3A models run at 13.8V to charge 7Ah batteries. For 24V DC, the HAY-DC24V1ABBLPSU, HAY-DC24V2ABBLPSU, HAY-DC24V5ABBLPSU and HAY-DC24V10ABBLPSU give 1A to 10A from a universal 90-264Vac input. The HAY-DC24V1ABBLPSU and HAY-DC24V5ABBLPSU have lid-open and box-removal tamper detection, and the HAY-DC24V5ABBLPSU also has a mains fail output relay.

Fire alarm and access control

For fire alarm systems, the HAY-PSUEN54-1A, HAY-PSUEN54-2A and HAY-PSUEN54-5AL are EN54-4 power supplies with a 27.6V DC uninterruptible output, battery monitoring and volt-free fault signalling; the 1A and 2A models take two 7Ah sealed lead-acid batteries. For access control, the HAY-ACCESS12/24V8/4A-8W switches between 12 VDC at 8 A and 24 VDC at 4 A, charges standby batteries and has eight fused, independently switched outputs with a trigger relay.

Multi-output, AC and inline supplies

Multi-output supplies power several devices from one unit: the HAY-PSUMULTI5A has 9 fused outputs sharing 5A, and the HAY-PSUMULTI10A has 16 outputs sharing 10A. For 24 VAC cameras, the HAY-PSU4/2-2/4A24 gives four 2A or two 4A outputs with auto-reset PTC fuses, and the HAY-IP-24VPSU-1X4A is an IP66 outdoor unit with a single 4A output. Inline supplies include the HAY-PSUINLINE3A24 (24 VAC 3A), the HAY-INLINE 3.5A (12VDC 3.5A) and the HAY-48V2.5A (48V DC 2.5A).

Frequently asked questions

When does a power supply need battery backup?

A battery-backed supply keeps alarm, access control or fire equipment running when the mains fails. The HAY-PSU12V3ABB supports 7Ah lead acid batteries for continuous operation during a mains failure, and the EN54-4 HAY-PSUEN54-2A switches over to its batteries automatically on mains loss, with battery monitoring and deep-discharge protection.

Should I choose a 12V or a 24V power supply?

Match the supply to the voltage your equipment is rated for. Haydon makes 12V and 24V DC versions of its boxed battery-backed supplies: the HAY-PSU12V1ABB, HAY-PSU12V2ABB and HAY-PSU12V3ABB at 12V DC, and the HAY-DC24V1ABBLPSU to HAY-DC24V10ABBLPSU at 24V DC. Where one unit must serve either voltage, the HAY-ACCESS12/24V8/4A-8W is user-selectable between 12 VDC and 24 VDC.

What does EN54-4 mean on a power supply?

It is a supply certified to EN54-4 for use in fire detection and alarm systems. The HAY-PSUEN54-1A, HAY-PSUEN54-2A and HAY-PSUEN54-5AL are certified to it, with a 27.6V DC uninterruptible output, battery monitoring, deep-discharge protection and volt-free fault outputs for remote monitoring. The HAY-PSUEN54-5AL comes in a tamper-protected metal enclosure with front-panel LEDs.

How do I power several CCTV cameras from one supply?

Use a multi-output supply and keep the total draw within its rating. The HAY-PSUMULTI5A has 9 outputs, with outputs 1 to 4 fused at 1.6A and outputs 5 to 9 at 1.1A, and its total output cannot exceed 5A. The HAY-PSUMULTI10A has 16 outputs sharing 10A, and the 24 VAC HAY-PSU4/2-2/4A24 has an LED and an auto-reset PTC fuse on each output.

Which Haydon supplies can be fitted outdoors?

A supply fitted outdoors needs a weatherproof enclosure with an IP rating such as IP66, which under IEC 60529 is dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets. The Haydon HAY-PSUIP1X2A-12VDC gives 12V DC at 2A from a 100-240 VAC input in a grey polycarbonate IP66 enclosure, and the HAY-IP-24VPSU-1X4A gives 24 VAC at 4A for outdoor CCTV, also rated IP66.

When is an inline power supply the right choice?

An inline supply suits a single device where a boxed unit is not needed. The HAY-INLINE 3.5A gives 12VDC at 3.5A on a 3.6m lead with a UK mains plug and a 2.1mm DC plug, the HAY-PSUINLINE3A24 is a 24 VAC 3A switch-mode supply with thermal and overload protection, and the HAY-48V2.5A gives 48V DC at 2.5A for PoE NVR or PoC DVR installations.
