Optex Redwall & Outdoor Sensors

This page holds Optex outdoor detectors for perimeters, boundaries and approaches. They include REDWALL PIR detectors with coverage patterns such as 40 × 4 m, 40 × 10 m and 30 × 20 m, and REDSCAN laser detectors that analyse a moving object's size and distance. Long-range REDWALL PIRs

The REDWALL SIP detectors adjust their sensitivity to ambient temperature and light to reduce false alarms, and resist tampering with anti-rotation protection. Pick the pattern for the site: the SIP-4010 covers 40 × 10 m in independent near and far zones, the SIP-404 a long, narrow 40 × 4 m, and the SIP-3020/5 a wider area of approximately 30 × 20 m. The SIP-404/5 and SIP-3020/5 add a creep zone beneath the unit, with three independent outputs for far, near and creep, and the SIP-4010/5 adds a dedicated low/creep zone directly beneath the unit. The SIP-4010 is designed for mounting heights between 2.3 and 4.0 m.

REDSCAN laser detectors

The RLS-3060SH is a laser scanner detector that identifies a moving object's size, speed and distance. Using LiDAR, its detection is unaffected by lighting conditions, shadows or heat sources, and it has 8 independently adjustable detection areas and can be powered with PoE plus using a PIE-1. The REDSCAN mini-Pro RLS-2020A creates virtual detection walls or planes across 20 × 20 m at 95 degrees, with up to 8 detection zones.

12m detectors and a curtain sensor

The VXI-AM uses dual PIRs for double layered detection up to 12m, is IP55 rated and adds advanced anti-masking on this hardwired model. The WXI-RAM is a battery operated wireless PIR with a 180° field of view and left and right areas set independently at 2.5m, 3.5m, 6m, 8.5m or 12m. The QXI-DT-X8 is a dual-technology detector covering 12m at 120°, for high mounting at 2.2 to 2.7m or low mounting at 0.8 to 1.2m, with anti-blocking technology. The BXS-ST is a hardwired curtain PIR that detects movement independently on both sides, up to 12m per side.

Choose a model with a long, narrow detection pattern, such as 40 × 4 m, for a fence line, pathway or service road. The Optex SIP-404 covers 40 × 4 m in two independent near and far zones. The SIP-404/5 adds a creep zone to the same area, with three independent outputs for camera presets. For wider areas, the SIP-4010 covers 40 × 10 m and the SIP-3020/5 about 30 × 20 m.

What is a wireless outdoor PIR?

It is a battery-operated outdoor motion detector that links to a wireless alarm system instead of being wired to the panel. The Optex WXI-RAM is a wireless, anti-masking outdoor PIR covering 12m across 180°, with left and right detection areas set independently. It can be added to most wireless alarm systems, and its double layered detection lets it ignore animals while detecting people.

When should I choose a laser detector instead of a PIR?

Choose a laser detector when it must judge a moving object's size and distance, or when lighting, shadows or heat sources could upset detection. The REDSCAN RLS-3060SH uses LiDAR and also measures speed, and the RLS-2020A creates virtual detection walls or planes across 20 × 20 m. REDWALL PIRs such as the SIP-4010 instead adjust their sensitivity to ambient temperature and light to reduce false alarms.

What outdoor detector mounting height should I use?

It depends on the detector, so mount it within its maker's recommended height range, because the detection pattern is set for that height. Optex REDWALL detectors such as the SIP-4010, SIP-404/5 and SIP-3020/5 are mounted at 2.3 to 4.0 m. The QXI-DT-X8 has high mount options at 2.2 to 2.7 m and low mount options at 0.8 to 1.2 m.
