Match the detector to the area it guards: a room, a garden approach, a long perimeter line, or a wall or roof that needs a laser or fibre system.

REDWALL long-range PIRs

REDWALL SIP detectors watch large outdoor areas and can trigger cameras. The SIP-404 covers 40 × 4 m in two independent near and far zones, the SIP-3020 covers 30x20m, and the SIP-100 draws a long, narrow 100 × 3 m curtain with separate far, near and creep alarm outputs. The SIP-HU heater unit keeps SIP detectors working in cold climates, and the AVF-1 viewfinder helps set the detection area during installation.

Garden and approach sensors

The VXI-AM is a hardwired dual-PIR outdoor detector with approach detection up to 12m, an IP55 rating and anti-masking. The QXI-DT-X8 adds dual technology for 12m and 120° coverage, with high and low mount options. For a boundary, the BXS-ST curtain PIR detects on both sides, 12m per side.

Beams, lasers and fibre

The SL-350QN is a 100m outdoor active infrared beam set for perimeter security. Towers such as the STW100 conceal beams, so an intruder cannot tell how many are fitted or at what height. REDSCAN laser detectors build a detection area in space: the RLS-2020I is a Grade 3 indoor laser sensor for skylights, walls and assets, and the RLS-3060SH identifies a moving object's size, speed and distance. The FD332 fibre optic unit protects two fence or wall zones, using sensor cable such as the SC3-C.

Indoor detectors

The FlipX FLX-S-DT combines PIR and microwave, with a rotatable lens for a wide 12m pattern or a narrow 18m one. The CX-702MKII is a Grade 2 indoor sensor for long-range detection in commercial and industrial buildings.

Which REDWALL detector suits a long fence line?

A long-range PIR with a long, narrow detection curtain suits a fence line, because it is built to detect approach along fences and walkways. The Optex REDWALL SIP-100 covers 100 × 3 m with separate far, near and creep outputs and active IR anti-masking. For a shorter or wider area, the SIP-404 covers 40 × 4 m and the SIP-4010 covers 40 × 10 m.

How does an outdoor PIR CCTV trigger work?

An outdoor PIR CCTV trigger switches an alarm output when it detects movement, and a recorder or camera uses that output to start recording or move to a preset. The Optex REDWALL SIP-100 has separate far, near and creep outputs for recorders, VMS and access control, and the SIP-404 has two zones with separate sensitivity selectors for camera preset and trigger control. The QXI-DT-X8 connects to alarm panels or CCTV systems.

Why fit infrared beams inside a tower?

A tower hides the beams, so an intruder cannot tell how many are fitted or at what height. Towers such as the STW100 and TW100 have an extruded aluminium frame with acrylic covers, and Optex dual and quad beams mount inside them. The SL-350QN beam set can also be mounted directly on a wall or pole.

What is a pet tolerant PIR?

A pet tolerant PIR is a motion detector designed to detect people while ignoring pets and small animals, which cuts false alarms. The Optex FlipX FLX-S-DT creates human-sized detection areas for pet tolerance, with a lens that rotates between a wide 12m, 85-degree pattern and a narrow 18m one. The FLX-S-ST and the outdoor QXI-ST are also pet tolerant.
