What this overdoor light does

On a nurse call system, an overdoor light sits above a doorway so staff can spot a call from along the corridor. This one adds a sounder, so a call can also be heard from further away.

It is a C-TEC device for large Quantec sites, designed to increase call indication levels.

How it works

• Addressable: it has its own identity on the Quantec network. It can respond to chosen groups of call points.
• Rising urgency: the light and sound both step up as a call becomes more urgent, so staff can judge priority before reaching a display.

Where to use it

Corridor ends are the natural position, where the light acts as a follow me signal towards an area. It is indoor equipment, with IP41 and a working range of -5ºC to +40ºC.

As a rule, think about sleeping areas when placing sounders, and use the volume control to match the setting at night.

What the figures mean in practice

• Less than 1.5mA and 40mA: standby and alarm currents. The higher figure is the one that matters when several lights are active together on a network.
• 48 mm depth: this is the depth to allow for from the wall, alongside the 86 mm square plate.

Installing it

• Back box: use a standard UK 25mm single gang box, flush or surface.
• Network: connect to Net + and Net –, which bring the nominal 24V DC supply from the Quantec Controller/Network.
• After fixing: set the volume, or disable the sounder if the site only needs the light.

Planning your system

It needs a Quantec network behind it, and programming to set which groups of call points trigger it. List those groups before commissioning, since they decide how many lights the site needs.

Usually, this kind of light adds to the call displays on a site, so plan both together.
