CCTV Cameras with Audio

CCTV cameras with audio add sound to the picture through a built-in microphone and, on some models, a speaker for two-way talk. Choosing CCTV Cameras with Audio

Decide first whether you need to hear the scene or also speak into it, then match the camera to the recorder and cabling you have.

Microphone or two-way audio

A camera with a built-in microphone records sound with the video. The DS-2CD2343G2-IU turret, the DS-2CD2543G2-IWS mini dome and the HiLook IPC-T289H-MU each have one. Two-way audio adds a speaker, so you can talk to a visitor or warn someone off: the DS-2CD2047G3-LI2UY/SL, DS-2CD2347G3-LIS2UY/SL and DS-2CV2041G2-IDW have a microphone and a speaker, as do the TP-Link VIGI S345 and S445.

Turbo HD cameras and audio over coax

On an analogue system the sound travels down the same coax as the video, known as audio over coax (AoC). The DS-2CE76D0T-ITMFS, DS-2CE72KF0T-LFS and HiLook THC-T120-MS have a built-in microphone with AoC, and the DS-2CE70DF3T-PTLXTS adds a 2 W speaker for two-way audio over coax. The recorder has to support AoC: the DS-2CE72KF0T-LFS requires a compatible recorder, and the THC-T120-MS is paired with an AoC-capable TurboHD DVR.

Deterrence and colour at night

Several audio cameras can also sound a warning. The DS-2CE72DF3T-LXTS has a built-in microphone, a 2 W speaker and an on-camera flashing light and siren, and the DS-2CD2047G3-LI2UY/SL pairs its smart hybrid light with an active strobe and audible alarm. ColorVu models such as the DS-2CE72KF3T-LSYE, which has white light and IR up to 40m, keep the picture in colour after dark.

PoE, Wi-Fi and zoom

PoE lets an IP audio camera take power and data over one network cable. The DS-2CD2343G2-IU takes PoE (802.3af) or 12 VDC, and the DS-2CD2347G3-LIS2UY/SL PoE (IEEE 802.3at) or 12 VDC. Where a cable run is hard, the DS-2CV2041G2-IDW connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The TP-Link S445ZI has a 2.7–13.5mm motorised varifocal lens.
