Maglocks
A maglock is an electromagnet on the door frame that holds a steel armature plate on the door, keeping it shut while powered and letting it go as soon as the power is cut. The range includes surface, mortice and external gate maglocks from makers such as STP, CDVI, Magnetic Solutions, RGL and Adams Rite, with double-door models, shear locks, magnetic pull handles and door status kits alongside.

Choosing Maglocks
Size a maglock by the door it holds, where it is fitted and what the access system needs to know about it.
Holding force
Slim maglocks such as the STP STEALTH01 and STP-EM01 hold 275kg, which suits most indoor applications where 275kg holding force is sufficient; standard models such as the STP-EM10 and STEALTH10 hold 545kg for doors that need more. Micro locks such as the STP-EM150 hold 136kg where space is tight, and the Magnetic Solutions MS5SSU holds 100 kg on cabinets and drawers.
Monitoring and door status
An unmonitored lock simply holds. A lock-monitored model, such as the STP-EM02 or STEALTH02, adds an LED and relay contacts that report whether the lock is engaged, and a DS model, such as the STP-EM01DS, adds a contact reporting whether the door is open or closed. The STP STEALTH-STANDSKIT and STEALTH-SLIMDSKIT retrofit door status to STP standard and slim maglocks.
Fire doors and exits
Fire-rated versions such as the STP-EM01-FIRE, STP-EM10-FIRE and STP-EM20DS-FIRE are FD30 and FD60 tested, and the CDVI C3S11 is fire tested to EN 1634 for 30 minutes. Because a maglock lets go when its power is cut, it can be wired to release on a fire alarm signal or a break-glass point.
Gates and outdoor doors
External maglocks such as the STP STP-EXT1200 and RGL EXML1200-GATE-M have weatherproof stainless steel cases for gates and outdoor doors, and the CDVI I300ER is a stainless mortice lock for external use.

Supply voltage
Most of the maglocks here are rated for 12V or 24V DC, selectable on models such as the STP-EM10DS and CDVI C3S11; the STP-EM10 draws 500mA at 12V and 250mA at 24V.

Frequently asked questions
What makes up a maglock system?
A maglock system pairs the magnetic lock and its armature plate with a DC power supply and a way to release the door. Release usually comes from an access control reader or keypad, an exit button and a fire alarm interface, with an emergency break-glass for escape. A monitored maglock adds a status output so the controller knows the door is secure.
Can a maglock be used on a gate?
Yes, but a gate needs an external maglock built to cope with weather, usually with a stainless steel case, sealed electronics and a conduit entry for the cable. Check the holding force against the size of the gate, and plan protected cable routes between the gate post and the power supply. The range here includes external gate maglocks.
How do you fit a maglock to a door?
Fix the magnet to the door frame head on the secure side, and fit the armature plate to the door so the two meet flat when it closes. Where the frame or door swing does not allow a flush fit, Z and L brackets are typically used to line the two up. Wire the lock to its supply and test the release.
What is a maglock?
A maglock is an electromagnetic door lock: a magnet on the frame holds a steel armature plate on the door while it is powered. It has no bolt or latch, and the door releases as soon as the power is removed, which makes it fail-safe on escape routes. The range here includes surface, mortice and shear maglocks.
