Altron Tilt Down Columns
An Altron tilt-down column lifts CCTV cameras high above a site, then lowers its top section to ground level so an engineer can service the cameras without working at height. This collection holds Altron square-section tilt-down columns at 4.5 m, 6 m, 7.5 m and 9 m. There are post-mount and bolt-down versions, such as the ACC2PMLA and ACC3BP, and DW1000 and DW1500AC demountable winches to lower them.

Choosing Altron Tilt Down Columns
Choose an Altron tilt-down column by the height the cameras need, how it fixes to the ground, and the winch that will lower it.
Why tilt down
Lowering the top section brings the cameras down for routine maintenance. The ACC1PM/LA and ACC2PMLA have a padlock facility that prevents unauthorised lowering, with internal cabling and flush doors on the column.
Height and load
The ACC1BPLA and ACC1PM/LA stand 4.5 m, the ACC2PMLA and ACC2BPLA 6 m, the ACC3BP 7.5 m, and the ACC4BP and ACC4PM 9 m. The ACC1BPLA is a light to medium duty column; check payload, wind loading and winch selection on the Altron datasheet before installation.
Fixing to the ground
A post-mount column such as the ACC2PMLA has its root set directly into concrete. A bolt-down column such as the ACC3BP fixes to a concrete foundation through a 140 × 140 base plate, and the ACC4BP is also designed to bolt to concrete. The ACC1BPLA needs foundations, anchor bolts and a foundation template, which are sold separately.
Winches
The DW1000 demountable winch kit suits tilt-down columns from 4.5m to 6m, and the DW1500AC is the 7.5m winch for ACC3 BP and PM columns. Because the winch is demountable, it can be removed once the column is back up and reused on another site.
| Model | Height | Fixing | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACC1PM/LA | 4.5 m | Post-mounted | Domes, fixed cameras, light PTZ heads |
| ACC2PMLA | 6.0 m | Post set into concrete | Modular, demountable sections |
| ACC3BP | 7.5 m | Bolt-down, 140 × 140 base plate | Lowered with the DW1500AC |
| ACC4BP | 9.0m | Bolts to concrete | Security cameras or lights |
| DW1000 | For 4.5m to 6m columns | Winch kit | Demountable |

Frequently asked questions
What is a tilt-down CCTV column?
It is a camera column whose top section is lowered to ground level with a winch, so cameras can be serviced from the ground. The ACC1PM/LA and ACC2PMLA have a padlockable facility that prevents unauthorised lowering, internal cabling and flush doors, and the ACC1PM/LA carries CCTV domes, fixed cameras and light PTZ heads.
What heights do Altron tilt-down columns come in?
The tilt-down columns here are 4.5 m, 6 m, 7.5 m and 9 m tall. The ACC1BPLA and ACC1PM/LA are 4.5 m, the ACC2PMLA and ACC2BPLA are 6 m, the ACC3BP is 7.5 m, and the ACC4BP and ACC4PM are 9 m. Pick the height the camera view needs, then check payload and wind loading on the Altron datasheet.
What is the difference between post-mount and bolt-down columns?
The difference is how the column meets its foundation. A post-mount column such as the ACC2PMLA has a root set directly into concrete, while a bolt-down column such as the ACC3BP fixes to a concrete foundation through a base plate. The ACC2PMLA needs a suitably engineered concrete foundation, installed by qualified personnel to the Altron guide.
Which winch lowers an Altron tilt-down column?
Match the winch to the column height. The Altron DW1000 demountable winch kit is for tilt-down columns from 4.5m to 6m, and the DW1500AC is the 7.5m winch for ACC3 BP and PM columns. On the ACC2BPLA, a demountable winch allows safe lowering and can be reused across sites.
How are Altron columns protected against corrosion?
Most of the tilt-down columns here are hot-dip galvanised after fabrication. The ACC1PM/LA is high-tensile steel, hot-dip galvanised to ISO 1461, and the ACC2PMLA, ACC2BPLA and ACC1BPLA offer an optional paint finish to BS or RAL colours. The 9m ACC4PM is likewise high tensile steel, hot dip galvanised for durability.
